My old employer usually did the same thing. Unfortunately I was the one they kept on for the two weeks. It sucks not being a piece of crap, they knew I wouldn't be "that" guy.

When I put in my 2 weeks notice, I immediately went to work trying to finish all of the products that I was working on so that my replacement wouldnt have to try to figure out what still needed to be done on half finished work.

I was told that company policy was to send me home on severence and I had to leave. Then when we settled everything up, they tried to charge me for 2 weeks leave that I didn't want to take. I ended up having to go to DoL in order to get paid correctly after months of fighting with them. When DoL interviewed me, they asked a lot of questions that had nothing to do with the situation, which made me nervous about what was going on.

It turns out that the way my contract was written posed some serious questions. We typically worked 28 days in a row and then got 8 days off at the end. I thought I was salary, so the hours didn't matter, but to make the company more money, they were charging the government for work by the hour.

This means that under exempt status, I was set on 80 hours per pay period and they could work me 2 additional hours per day, up to a 16 hour max per pay period. After that, I had to be paid overtime. After additional investigation, they found that the company owed me over $40k in compensation over 3 years. They also determined that we were not being paid correctly by the schedule of labor, so all employees were immediately given an $8 an hour pay raise and back paid to their start date.

Needless to say, that company no longer has that contract. And noone would have even known they were sitting on 10s of thousands of dollars if I wouldn't have pressed the issue about my 2 week severence, which I didn't really expect to ever see.

Every place I've worked just let people go once they give their two weeks notice. Two weeks severance pay and escort you out of the building. People, especially disgruntled ones like it sounds like you are describing can eff things up, so companies just send them on their way.
When I worked in/ ran kitchens we did the samething. Give them their paycheck for whatever time they had left and let them go that day, but this guy is just going to another department so they can't do that. It took everything in me this morning not to lose my cool on him with his smartass remarks.

Also I am not sure they would let him go before his 2 weeks anyways. This is a huge multinational bank so they are very pc/scared to do anything. It takes an act of congress to fire someone.

Oh boy, computer system down in Cartagena. Hand written boarding pass. The plane change might be interesting in Panama. We are scheduled for take off in 20 minutes and still no one boarding....could be a long day.

Not in the mood to start in on writing another manuscript, but these things don't write themselves. Deadline of June 18th for a special issue, so I guess I better get crackin.

Its cool. Just find the same color pen and write "First Class" on it, too.

Chapter 1-10

I Am Awesome

The End
I go that route for my end of year self-eval's we're required to write (in particular the "I Am Awesome" bit). Double-dipping from that well in one year might be frowned upon. :p

Waiting on a contractor that is over an hour late and has stood me up twice already. I would have dumped him after the first time, but, he's already done the work I contracted originally, but didn't get it all done correctly. I know this guy will show up just at THP event sign up time at 1 pm. Grrrrrr.

Giving us more work, with less people, and then complaining things are falling behind. Please make me want to drop kick someone today even more!

This rain has got to stop. There is only so much indoor putting and chipping I can handle.

Someone partially shut off one of my tests without asking me and it wasn't one of the other engineers as far as I know. Furious right now.

Or go to a cheaper school. One doesn't have to go to a Division I school (or basically a high dollar school) to get a good education. I admittedly went in a different time (1980) but went to one of the top 3 schools in the country for my major and it was a NAIA Division II school at the time. My loans were paid off in two years. If I had gone to KU it would have cost me five or six times more. Which is why I didn't go. I knew I couldn't afford it and I know for sure my parents couldn't.

When we were looking at schools for my oldest son, he was accepted to UNC Pembroke, which is about a 20 minute drive from the house. He didn't want to go there at all when we first started talking about it. The main reason that I could get out of him was "Everyone from around here goes to UNCP" and he wanted to go to the UNC Main Campus, which is over an hour and a half away. I tried to tell him that after graduation, no one will care which campus he went to and that UNC was a good school no matter where he attended. He resisted for a long time until I told him that if he went to UNC-P or Methodist University, I would pay for it as long as he stayed here at the house and didn't move onto the campus and incur that expense but if he chose to go to school somewhere out of the area, he was on his own and would come out of school $40-50k in debt because of school loans instead of having a clean slate.

He ultimately chose to stay here and attend UNC-P after a couple months.

My middle son seems to be a bit more reasonable about his expectations, but we will see next year when it's time to start looking at the acceptance letters.

Really wish people at work would stop needing everything sugar coated. Take it straight from someone just because something negative is being said doesn't mean it is personal. I want people to be straight with me even if it hurts to hear I can take it and make myself a better person, employee etc. You can't improve if people don't point out your flaws or mistakes (with respect of course)

Sometimes its the way a message is delivered more than the actual message itself.

Ive said it to your face, you ARE a sandbagger....no sugar coating needed

Our society has become so soft. I agree tell me like it is, tell me what I need to work, and it gets done. This round about/ passive agressive/pc way of doing things is not productive.

I'll agree with that and I do know that is something I personally need to work on as well. I do know everyone needs to be approached differently but people also need to be able to accept negativity as well as positivity. You can't dwell on the negatives you can only take them into account and try and better yourself (if the negative comments are valid)

Holy cow.... a storm just came up out of nowhere. I've been through hurricanes that didn't dump this much rain at once.

Insurance companies.

Couple months ago I pushed a piece of wax against my eardrum so I had to go get it flushed out .

Insurance isn't covering it and it's going towards my deductible because it was a procedure? Really? A syringe and warm water flushed in my ear is a procedure?

When I got snipped it was in a office and cost 25$ and that was a hell of a lot more serious than this.

Same thing with a cyst on my head. 25$.

This is why I never go to the doctor , even a simple office visit turns into a giant nightmare.

Jut switched to this insurance as it looked like an upgrade on paper through my wife's work. Clearly not the case.

Insurance is Latin for "Organized Crime".

I've tried to make a dozen legit claims on home/auto in my life, and not once was anything actually covered.

"You crashed into a river? We only cover salt water incidents."

Boy this is timely. Today my manager came over to critique me on some consultation notes I had sent to the client.

I had to really seperate what her message was from how she was delivering it. I've spoken with some of my younger coworkers after they were almost in tears after their meetings with her and tried to assure them she's not attacking them, just their work. But it's hard for people not experienced with a lot of managers to know this.

She he is very smart and knows her job well. But she is a horrible communicator. I've tried telling her that before in a nice way (we are close to the same age and years of work experience). I learned she receives criticism about as well as she gives it

but at the end of the day. I'm able to take her message and not take the delivery personal.

Unfortunately, stories like this give insurance companies a bad rep. (Not saying stories like this don't give them the bad rep they deserve)

But maybe it's time to look into other companies. You aren't under contract, so shop elsewhere. If you aren't happy, look around again.

I had never made a claim of any kind ever, but in 2008 when a friend of mine gave me a quote from Farm Bureau which was less than half of what I was paying for my house at the time, I switched from Farmer's. The auto was a touch higher, but combined I was still about 45% cheaper. Two years later, we had a hailstorm and they replaced my roof quickly and with no issues. In fact, not only did they write the check to me, they also wrote it for replacement cost minus the deductible before the work was even done. (Oftentimes, insurance companies will write you a check, but it will be for actual cash value until you prove you got the work done, then pay you the balance, even when you have replacement cost coverage)

Two years later I went to work for him.

Insurance companies/salesmen and auto mechanics (and many other occupations) have a lot in common, and it's having a reputation for being unscrupulous. But not all fall into that category.

(I know JRod's rant was about healthcare, not PC, but many people have the same opinion about that as well)

It's the bean counters that piss me off. I understand what you're saying though every mechanic is a thief as well.

As far as the shopping goes if this isn't taken care of I will cancel my policy immediately and go back to our previous carrier: it was a little more expensive but I didn't to deal with **** like this. This is only an office visit too I can't imagine if anything major actually went wrong .
