What’s The HR Record in Baseball?

So it went from EVERY player to high level players?
Im so confused.

While I think more than got caught were a part of it, I think its pretty odd to jump to every player.
I'm not jumping on players. I'm not chastising. I'm disregarding drug use. I don't think it matters who was or was not on drugs because I think most of them were. I think a player's drug use, alleged or otherwise, should not be held against them.

If Ohtani got here a little earlier he would have blow by Bonds. What he is doing is insanity, pitching and hitting..... 1000 OPS with 200 Ks (pitching) 32.7 WAR in 6 season is insanity.
Let’s not forget Bonds had a couple years where his OBP was higher than Ohtani’s career SLG. 22.3 WAR in those 2 seasons.

Baseball stats are the best.

The question that started the thread wasn’t “what do you subjectively think should be the HR record,” nor was it “What is the non performance enhancing drug HR record?”. It was “What’s the HR record in baseball?” That answer is simple and not debatable, 73, Barry Bonds, 2001.

My favorirte Bonds stat: In 2004, he received 120 intentional walks.

How is it not debatable if we’ve also had people answer:
  • 60
  • 61
  • 62
  • 70
  • 755
  • 762

I need to look, but didn't he have more IW than Ks that year?

Guy’s only 100+ K season was 102 his rookie year  and he only exceeded 90 three other years.

oh i agree but he still has to do it for like 10 more years.

Bonds numbers in case anyone forgot how great he was:

There are no hand-eye coordination steroids.
True,
Yet a famous pitcher once told me you need less hand eye coordination if you are stronger and faster than before.

Yessir. Strength matters.

2004 - 135 hits, 232 walks (120 intentional) and 41 ks in 617 plate appearances. Only 45 HRs. But it was his age 40 season.

As much as I don’t like him, it is beyond question that during those peak years, he was absolutely frightening to any pitcher facing him.

This seems relatable to us golfers. Those with higher swing speeds have lots of advantages.

My opinion....Bonds. See below table of stats for my reasons.

70. Bonds doesn’t count. McGwire does because I saw a lot of those in person and the ‘98 home run race saved baseball.

Big Mac's count but Barry's dont? I don't disagree PEDs should wipe things away but if one doesn't count, they both shouldn't count.

So true! A miss-hit with 5-10 mph more batspeed goes from warning track power to 10 rows up in the stands.

I wish we could have seen what Barry did if they actually putched to him that season.

now yes. Just to piss people off.
I didnt realize this was a debate.

Big Mac’s career HR rate being nearly 10% is quite impressive

Big Mac’s career HR rate being nearly 10% is quite impressive
Why were his at bats so much lower? Was his career quite a bit shorter?
