I aim at the safest part of the green almost exclusively. Shallow greens give me the most trouble, but I tend to look at a green and try to figure out where the "center" or the fattest part of the green is.
If I get a GIR, I'm pretty confident I'm not leaving that hole any worse than bogey. So I'm just looking to get it on the green.
I'd say I aim for the safest part of the green about 80% of the time. If there's a safe approach from where I'm at into the pin, then I'll gun it at the pin, but that's rare.
