Hopefully the sun is shining, the barbecues are fired up and everybody is enjoying a nice extended holiday weekend. Get out and play some golf, enjoy some time with the family and remember the pets on this day of celebration that brings loud noises.
We will be back on Wednesday with fresh new content.

@JB I like the note about pets and loud noises. We have had our share of dogs and none liked this holiday. I did take Rocco out again last night, and he was ok, with the noise – not skittish at all, but slightly nervous – a big difference, maybe as there was nowhere near what one may expect as it was not the 4th yet.
So, for you – and anyone else, any tips for when you will be away from the house but the pet is still in? I was thinking to close him in a room that I know he is comfortable in, vice the whole house where he could go all over the place, as the noise gets louder/worse. It’s the first time we will be out on the 4th without the dog. So, wondering what’s best.

Comfort. A big place to lie down and cozy up / “hunker down”
at the end of the day, it really depends on the temperament of the dog
Happy 4th to those here in the states! Hope you all have an enjoyable one and stay safe!! Cheers!!

Happy 4th of July!!!
Happy 4th, THP!
Played 36 today including 18 with Cal and the Wife.
Made them tacos (taco tuesday, duh), and avoided fireworks haha!
Hope you all had an awesome day!
Hope everyone had a Happy 4th. We capped our day off with a fireworks show by our neighbor. The police came by, which is the sign of a good show. The little man loved it.

Sorry I missed this. For future reference, we’ve had great success with our frightened dogs in the past by playing “Light Classical” music in the basement (Directv channel 866) fairly loudly to mask the fireworks. Without Directv, I’d just find another source, of course.
In the weeks or month lead-up to the 4th, I’d condition them by slowly ramping up the volume. Obviously, with their hearing far superior to ours, a moderate level can be LOUD to them. Video proof, the few times we left them alone, showed the plan to work great. The loudest booms would get their attention, but they’d remain calm.
That was with our 3 dogs, two of them terrified by fireworks and thunderstorms that we lost a few years ago.
Dogless for two years, we just rescued an 18 month old female Cane Corso a month ago, and like our prior Clyde (also a Cane Corso), she has no fear of fireworks or thunderstorms. Only the loudest booms get her attention with head quickly raised, ears alert. But then she’ll just lay back down.
Thank GOODNESS. Hope this holiday worked out well enough for you and Rocco.
Well, he passed pretty easily – as it stands, we left the ball game (rain delay), I am still not sure they played – a lot of rain during the delay, we get antsy after about an hour of delay – and in small Class A park not too many places to stay dry. So, went home, our neighborhood did not have a lot of fireworks going off – I was surprised by this, but I had him out for a night walk and he heard a lot of them and was looking around more than usualy for what/where etc, A bit skittish – but he was ok. Our previous dogs had way more issues.
