Please note: PING supplied limited information in the form of press release at a very late date for all parts of the G430 line. We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this may cause our readers.
Rounding out their new G430 line of golf clubs, PING is offering a robust selection of fairway woods and hybrids. While only incorporating it into the LST version of their 2023 drivers, they have outfitted every fairway wood and hybrid with a new composite crown called “CarbonFly Wrap”, which they believe is “key to more distance and green-holding stopping power.”
G430 Fairway Woods
The illustration above shows the G430 fairway wood’s CarbonFly Wrap composite top, which extends over both the heel and toe sections for a total weight savings of 10g. As expected with this type of design, the weight savings allows a repositioning of that 10g elsewhere in the club head. Specifically, PING chose to position the CG “closer to the force line to maximize ball speed, resulting in higher, longer carries”. The company is also claiming this new design helps produce a sound that its customers will find pleasing. It will be interesting to see if this comes to fruition, as sound issues are a common criticism of PING’s metalwoods.
In addition to CarbonFly Wrap, PING is carrying over two bits of technology they’ve had success with in previous lines. Their maraging steel, variable thickness Facewrap technology is designed to provide faster ball speeds and higher launch angles. In addition, variable roll radius looks to reduce spin on mishits, especially low on the face.
G430 fairway woods will be available in two models, the MAX and the SFT (Straight Flight Technology), the latter of which has a slightly larger head and lighter swing weight to assist with squaring the face. The eight-position adjustable hosel can alter loft (±1.5°) and lie (up to 3° flatter than std).
Specifications

G430 Hybrids
Integrating the same technology and design concepts as the fairway wood line, the G430 hybrids also utilize the CarbonFly Wrap crown, maraging steel Facewrap, and variable roll radius. While information seems difficult to come by, even on release day, early feedback we’ve heard has been positive, so it may be worth seeking these out.
Available in six different loft options, the hybrids also have an 8-position hosel to adjust loft (±1.5°) and lie (up to 3° flatter than std).

For my needs they are. The hybrids are silly easy to hit and very long, but they roll out too far.
Is your roll out due to descent angle, not enough spin or both?

PRO TIP (from a non pro) – the 430 Max 5 wood is kinda incredible….
I got the 5-wood a couple of months ago. The first range session was magic. Off a tee or the deck it was just point and shoot. I was giddy. I felt like I’d found a magic club.
Then I lost it. And struggled with it while hitting all of my other clubs fairly well. I got so frustrated that I sold it.
Since then I tweaked one thing with my swing and have been playing lights out the last 5 weeks. Now I regret selling it. I used some pro shop credit from my hot streak in league play to buy the G430 4H. If I stay on a roll, I may give the 5W another run. That first session was SO good.

I haven’t had a Ping club in my bag for about six years, not because I am against them. I just haven’t.
I now have the G430 22* hybrid and the LS 3 wood. I found a used 3 wood at my local store that was like new, but at a price that didn’t choke me, LOL. The hybrid is fantastic. I am still trying to decide on the 3 wood.

Story time – I actually bought the LS 3 wood for a hot second but came to the conclusion I didn’t need a 3 wood that goes nearly as far as my driver, so went with the 5 wood again.
I was hitting a buddys G430 Max 3 wood yesterday. Launched effortlessly high and long off the turf. If my Burner Mini Driver wasn’t so firmly ensconced in my bag, I’d be going to Carl’s tonight.

For me, I want a three wood that is very long off the deck (presuming I can hit it with confidence), because it gives me a chance to be aggressive on par 5s. However, it secondarily needs to be good off the tee, because I have holes on both of the courses in my main rotation where driver puts me in trouble. I am hoping that with the somewhat unique combination of a shallower face, but low spin, I have that unicorn. So far, I haven’t been striking it as solid as I would like, which for some reason is a recurring thing for me with shallow fairway woods. I have a 90 day playability guarantee where I purchased it, so I have some time.

Did you try adding some loft? I had the G430 5h in on trial from Global Golf and at std loft it flew lower than my normal 26* hybrid did and ran out a bit too much for my liking. Also I wasn’t able to turn it over like I do my gamer hybrid. So I bumped the loft to the small plus and was back to the high draw that stopped quickly. I was really surprised how much difference the loft adjustment made.

We played with it for a bit, but I really just wanted to try ot, i sure dont NEED it. Just nice to have numerous options. The way I can hit these Cleveland long irons, I really don’t need the lofted fairways, I just like them more….
Holy cow, my fairway fitting went super well. I’m going to get both the G430 3W & 5W Max versions with stock Tour 2.0 75g stiff shafts. I don’t have Trackman numbers as it was so hot out the iPad and then the Trackman started to overheat lol. We did it at my home courses range so we know where balls go with whatever clubs we’re hitting. I can’t believe how easy they are to hit, it was insane the height I was getting. He didn’t have a heavy enough 4H shafts for me to try so I didn’t bother going down that path although I hit the 80 whatever gram Tour 2.0 regular shaft really well but I was afraid to get a regular shaft without trying out a stiff to compare. Once I get that club squared away I’ll be shamefully done club whoring I guess and just play what I have. Super excited to pair the Ping G430 line of fairways and hybrids with my Titleist TSR2 driver..I feel like I have the perfect combo for me!

I’m very interested in your experiences as a current Hy-wood user. I loved the Hy-wood last year. While we are still amicable, I don’t have the lust for it that I had last year.
As I mentioned before, I had a magic session when I first got a G430 5-wood. I was even easier to hit than my Hy-wood off the tee and deck. But I got squirely with it in rounds. Then my swing was kinda janky and I got mad and sold it. (stupid)
How would you compare it to the Hy-wood? I really should have kept it and tried to work it out instead of taking a hit on the sale.

Cleveland makes some absolutely phenomenal stuff. The 4-hybrid is security blanket club for me. I don’t really have a good reason for replacing it.
The Hy-wood is good too. But you’re right about the shaft. I think it’s a mental thing for me. When I got my swing regrooved a couple of months ago, it was the one club I was struggling to still hit consistently. My instructor picked it up and took a few swings and asked ‘does this shaft feel a bit light to you? This seems like an oddly weighted club’
I kinda wish I burned the shop credit I had on another run at a fairway wood. My goal for the rest of the men’s league season is to win enough shop credit to buy one. I’ll probably keep the Hy-wood and 4H though. The residual value just doesn’t make them worth selling.

Bingo on the poor resale value. It’s a bummer but it is what it is. I love Cleveland for letting me get into the game with very forgiving clubs but once you build a decently quick swing it’s time to move on until Father Time brings us back to them

I had the shakedown session with the G430 4H today. It’s REALLY good. I’d say the biggest difference from the Cleveland is how solid it feels at impact. That’s a hallmark of the G430 line. It’s almost like a solid thud and the ball goes flying as opposed to the Cleveland which feels a bit ‘zingier’.
I have the Alta CB 70 shaft and an 85 gram hybrid shaft. The performance was about the same to be honest. I got the shaft the fitter originally fit me into…but I can’t honestly say there was a significant difference. I’m playing tomorrow and Sunday and will give each shaft an on-course workout.
I really want to give the 5-wood another chance after my swing back under control.

I’m sure the 4H is great as I bet a lot of 4 hybrids are great. It’s the perfect club for almost everyone unless you have some serious swing speed to carry a 4i in it’s spot. I know the 7 and 9 wood has really gotten popular recently but I like a few clubs that I can keep relatively low for when the wind is howling

Yep. A good 4H has always been my security blanket club. I fell into the Cleveland when my beloved G410s head flew off at the range the day before a tournament. I felt like I was playing with a huge hole in my bag the next day. They fixed it, but it never quite felt the same. I got a 425 and didn’t like it nearly as much. I’d took a flier on the Cleveland after liking the Hy-wood. It was a shockingly good club.

So far, I would give it an incomplete. I felt like I was killing it in one range session. I also hit is super well on one 9 hole round, but elevation changes made it tough to gauge distances. The two 18 hole rounds on a course that is familiar to me, I have not hit it as long as the 3 wood that has been in my bag, but both of those rounds were not below average ball striking rounds.
I have a big charity scramble today and another next week. I brought my TSI2 home from the cottage because I was killing it the entire time I was up there. Went to the range yesterday, and the TSI2 was outperforming the G430 Max in carry and dispersion. Then I realized the G430 Max was set at stock 10.5 degrees. The 11 degree TSI was set at C3, making it .75 degrees upright and 11.75 degrees loft. Having an old school driiver AOA borne of my days hitting persimmons, combined with a really bad back, of course the higher loft setting will produce better carry some days. I’m going to crank up the loft on the G430 at the course range before the round today and see what happens.

Ping got all my money this year 430 Driver 3w, 3hy, 5-50* 430 irons and 54* Glide 4.0 only thing left is the 58*
Good to see this thread get some action lately!
I still love my 4H, just been an absolute beast in my bag. Has truly become my most consistent and favorite club to hit.
Totally bummed about the PING hybrid. They have been point and shoot before. The range session on Friday had some promising shots, but not the stupid easy Ping hybrid forgiveness I remembered. I played 36 holes this weekend and didn’t hit one ‘great’ shot with it. A couple of shots I got away with an OK result. But I hit more poor shots than decent shots. My confidence slowly drained over 3 days.
It got benched on 13. It’s short par 4 with a big pot bunker in the landing area for driver. It would normally be just a smooth 4H and a short iron. I’d been playing well the back 9. I promptly top it.
I grab my trusty Cleveland Hy-wood and put it right by the green.

I don’t think topping the ball was the clubs fault especially at the tee box.
Maybe you just have a shallow swing and benefit from the lower COG on the Hy-Wood which would balloon on me.
But the whole 430 line up is point and shoot from my swing perspective.

I loved the Ping G410 hybrid. It was my security blanket club for a long time.
I just can’t seem to find it with the G430.The dispersion and consistency with my swing just wasn’t there.
I thought maybe it was adjusting to a heavier hybrid shaft after playing the Cleveland for awhile.
I burned shop credit from mens league to buy it, so I’m not as invested. It’ll get another range session or two. But won’t get a start unless it clearly unseats the Cleveland.
I’d hoped I’d love it as much as the 430 driver.

There is a huge weight difference of about 30 grams in shaft weight, plus the 5.5 grams of Tungsten weighting in the 430 which is why it’s a rocket.
I don’t know what your options are at the shop but maybe the 45-gram Alta Quick would’ve been better.
One thing is for certain the ball speed is much higher on the 430 vs Hy-wood but if you don’t get along with it so be it.
I did push my 430 4H on the first 2 shots but that was my fault, not the club, the Carbon Wrap did push the COG lower so launching is no issue.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

There is a huge weight difference of about 30 grams in shaft weight, plus the 5.5 grams of Tungsten weighting in the 430 which is why it’s a rocket.

It could be just getting used to the weight. There are signs there. On Saturday’s round it put me right by the green on a par 5.
I may just need more range time to trust it….you make a good point about the weight adjustment.

I traded in my starter Cleveland HB Launcher driver, fairway woods, hybrids and my CBX irons and wedges along with 3 putters for $502 lol. Pretty bad resale value but whatever, I picked up a G430 Max 5w and 4h with the Tour 2.0 stiff shafts. My Max 3w hopefully will be in soon too (also with the Tour 2.0 shaft).
The only bummer is my boy’s hockey season has started so I won’t be playing much. Maybe a few 9s here and there during the week work permitting but I won’t get a lot of play with them until next season.

Did you happen to test your G430 5h with the Alta and also the Red RDX? Was curious how those 2 shafts differed. Nobody around here has the Smoke RDX hybrid shaft in their fitting carts.

I did. In fact my favorite feeling shaft was the 95g regular flex Tour 2.0 but I was scared about going with that and stuck with stiff. I was in such a groove I figured I’d have more janky swings while playing that the stiff might save a few from going off of the planet lol
I have an 85g RDX in my 5 hybrid and love it but I wanted a hair less spin with my 4h

I only took a few swings with the Alta, I wanted more weight/feel/something more. My Cleveland’s already have light shafts and I didn’t trade them in so I can always swap back if need be

The rdx is actually a little lighter than the Alta in the hybrid. But don’t think it’s counterbalanced. So the red might feel heavier when swinging it.

I bought the 5h blind as I originally purchased a Titleist TSR2 24* turned up 2 but the delivery time was so far out after I ordered it I switched to the Ping blindly. It definitely goes high which I love as it stops really well. I have a few par 3s at my course that call for that club off of the tee so it’s perfect for my CC which is mostly where I play

I will either see about the RDX red or Alta Sr as the Alta reg. does play a little stiffer, heavier, and off the deck the trajectory is a little lower than I would like. There is only a 3-gram difference between the 2 of them with the RDX being the lighter one.
Gonna have some fun the rest of the season I feel like with this club.
