Golfers who have been searching for a budget-friendly laser rangefinder have certainly been in luck over the past several years. The steep competition has undoubtedly driven the cost to the consumer down, but in many cases, some features and overall quality tend to go missing.
TecTecTec is not new to the cost-friendly game. They opened their doors back in 2014 with a mission statement of “Only What You Need,” and they followed up on that by offering devices that offered innovation, precision, and friendlier prices. It didn’t take them long to experience success as they became the #1 Rangefinder sold on Amazon from 2016 to 2020. Today, TecTecTec is announcing KLYR, a new product to their rangefinder stable, one that they hope will suit the needs of a vast majority of golfers and set the company on a new path.
“We hold several patents and have developed 100+ products for golfers over the past 8 years,” said Steve Henneman, Global Sales Director for TecTecTec. “Our team spans across the oceans, which gives us a unique advantage. We absolutely lean on different geographic markets for inspiration and ideation. In my opinion, the new KLYR rangefinder is the most exciting product we’ve ever brought to market.”
With KLYR (pronounced clear), TecTecTec is not trying to set the bar for the cheapest rangefinder on the market. Instead, we see a device around that $200 price point that offers many features found on higher-end units. For starters, KLYR is a compact unit roughly 30% smaller than the average rangefinder. Being on the smaller side means it is easy to throw in your pocket, but you can also utilize the magnetic belt clip for quick and easy access. The built-in magnet can also secure KLYR to your golf cart. As a nice bonus, a magnetic ball marker can also be connected to either the belt clip or the side of the rangefinder itself.
Other features include slope readouts to give accurate yardages based on elevation changes. TecTecTec has three other rangefinders with slope functionality, although all three use a pop-out faceplate to enable/disable the slope readings. KLYR handles slope modes much more traditionally with a sliding ON/OFF button. There is also a Target Lock Vibration mode that gives haptic feedback once the flagstick, or any other target, has been acquired.
With the unveiling of KLYR, it seems TecTecTec has decided they aren’t going to be participating in the battle for the lowest price, but rather give golfers what they need in a practical price. KLYR may not have the optical image stabilization found in the TecTecTec ULT-S and ULT-S Pro models, but it hits the features that most golfers will enjoy. Adding a magnet to rangefinders is becoming a more sought-after feature these days, so it’s nice to see it included on a device of this price point.
More information on the new KLYR rangefinder can be found at www.us.tectectec.com.

Looks good, I’m in the market for a rangefinder this year. Couple quick questions…
How does one enter for the giveaway?
Anyone have feedback on the more expensive TecTecTec models that have image stabilization – is this a worthwhile feature?
The KLYR just looks smaller in length, looks to be just as tall and thick as others, is it really more pocketable?

It is definitely pocketable and smaller both in length and a little in width. It fit in my pocket last week at the THP Event really well. here it is next to my VC range finder, which isnt all that big either.

Definitely more pocketable that the ULT-S Pro.
I have both next to me as I typed this and ran a quick side-by-side test. The KLYR image looks better. Image stabilization is a cool feature, no doubt. I’m not sure I would spend the extra money for it when this one offers what I would want. Now if you wanted to look at the other options like red font, fog mode, then sure it’s worth considering.

Man if this one had red font, I think it would be the absolute perfect rangefinder! Crazy how easy red is to see on some of them
I really this has all the features I would need and the yellow colour is very cool looking and easy to spot. Best feature is the size… this will be definitely on my wish list.

Yellow is even better in person and yellow is far from my favorite color. But this works!
Continuing to REALLY enjoy using this rangefinder. Locks on to pins almost instantly and helps with other things like trees at the end of fairway (to see if I’d run through or not) or groups playing in front to see when they are out of range. Since I’ve gotten it, I’ve even played two nine hole rounds with just this and not my watch. I still feel like the watch is quicker, since this is having to be grabbed and put away every time, but man if it’s not relaxing to shoot distances.
My favorite thing about it though has been on the range. We are hitting from mats only still and they have ranges posted in the ground of each practice pin. Well those are anywhere from five to 15 yards off of what’s posted. So there were times I thought for sure I was hitting my distance, I came up well short and got frustrated. Shot it with my KLYR and saw the distance discrepancy. Really glad this is on my bag at all times now.
Also, there’s a contest going on for one right now on THPs Instagram! You’d doing yourself no favors if you miss out on entering!

Look what came in the mail just in time, one hour before my round today! I was watching the tracking number like an absolute hawk.
My first initial thoughts were, ‘If that quick shipping (thanks to @GolferGal and @JB for that!) and that perfect timing have anything to say about it, I’m gonna love this rangefinder!” And I was absolutely right.
Was super impressed with the packaging, it comes with a magnetic belt clip, magnetic ball marker that clips to the case, and the built-in magnetic piece for the cart.
I saw the reviews and specs, but was still shocked at how small, compact and convenient it was during my first round with it today. Pretty dang slick rangefinder if you ask me! Even when I did have a rangefinder in the past, I never had one that I could clip to the cart but I always wanted one – made all the difference in the world.
Optics were absolutely fantastic (best I’ve seen out of a golf or hunting rangefinder), loved having the actual and slope yardages at once, and it locked in to the pin with vibration like a piece of cake. When I get the chance to play with it more, I know I’m gonna find even more aspects that I love about it.
Can’t thank @JB, @GolferGal, and all the folks at THP enough. Couldn’t be more pumped. THP is awesome – thank you!

Congrats Phil!!
Ok so it took me a minute, really shooting the target a couple times to figure out that the big number shown at the top is the adjusted yardage, and the actual yardage is at the bottom with the adjustment shown. Once I figured that out, it was easy breezy.
More of these getting in THPer hands is awesome! Also, Congrats on the win @PhillyV !
These are slick looking little units. Great price point. Seeing more TecTecTec stuff lately. Pretty cool what they are doing.
Thanks fellas! Really pumped to get it out on the course. It will be the first one with any mag tech so I’m excited not to mess with getting it in and out of the cart the whole round

That next to the phone comparison really surprised me. I can’t wait to have this in hand
If you hit a rather large bump, the magnet may not hold well enough. Ask me how I found this out…
I had a work trip down to Florida, and thought I would have some time to get at least 9 in, so I took the KLYR with me. Compact, and didn’t take up much room in my bag. The optics are very clear, and the slope calculation is very fast. Also the vibration feature when shooting the flag is fantastic. Somehow I ended up shooting in meters, which was funny for a while until I figured it out. No wonder my yardage wasn’t anywhere close to my GPS watch! Just hold the M button down until the units change.
Magnet is a nice feature. It took me a while mentally to get used to actually using it. I am so used to throwing the thing in a cup holder. Magent held very well, minus the one jarring bump which caused it to fall off the cart.
For the money, I think this things stands toe to toe with better known brands.
Well look what showed up today! Thank you @JB and @GolferGal for the contest and crazy fast shipping!
Initial thoughts is wow this is a lot of cool stuff in a very compact device. It’s barely bigger than a trading card. Really user friendly and honestly I think I might try the belt clip. After much more time and many more rounds with the TecTecTec! KLYR I’m still so happy and impressed with it. I’ve gotten many compliments and questions, “What kinda rangefinder is that – I like that a lot.” Based off its sleek look and compact size. Then when someone uses it, they’re even more impressed.
Optics are unbelievably clear and the field of view through the eyepiece is surprisingly and impressively large even with the rangefinder’s compact size. It allows you to see everything around whatever you might be shooting with extreme ease.
Some rangefinders I have used in the past have finicky eyepieces/dials that constantly affect the focus in a negative way. I have yet to have to adjust the focus on the KLYR – it seems like no matter what I’m shooting, at whatever yardage, the object is very clear.
It seems to be very accurate. I’ve tested it shooting at middle pins from sprinkler heads and markers on the course, and I almost always get the same yardage every time I shoot a pin or object – and if not, it differs by a yard. It’s amazing how fast it shoots yardages back at you and the lock vibration is always a plus knowing the KLYR locked in on what you wanted before you stand over your ball and take a shot.
It seems to be so well made and durable as well compared to other players’ rangefinders I’ve seen in groups I’ve played with and in carts that I’m in. I was surprised with how strong the magnet is, as some hefty bumps didn’t even make it budge. I did knock it off the cart once down to the floor of the cart when I hit it with my hand getting back into said cart, and there didn’t appear to be even a single slightest blemish.
All my playing partners are jealous that I have a rangefinder that adjusts and accounts for slope, and man has it saved me on shots numerous times.
Can’t say enough good things about this device, and I can’t thank THP enough!!

Only 1 instance so far where i couldn’t get the flag to lock in. I was about 260yrds out on a par 5. Although it wouldn’t lock in to the flag I was able to hit the top of the bunker and get the number i needed to clear it. Other than that incident yesterday its been pretty darn good and usually pretty quick to lock onto target

I think I’ve only had two instances where it refused to lock on to anything. I’ve been super satisfied so far. Especially since I use it in conjuncture with a GPS watch. It’s been a fantastic device!
Got my rangefinder out in play today and came away really impressed with a few things. The speed was great and the magnet tech is awesome. Used the belt clip once when I had to walk away from the cart a bit to find my ball and get a yardage. I think my only gripe so far is the sight is tiny and the actual yardage and adjusted yardage are just oddly on opposite ends so it’s not extremely easy to see both. It’s a busy display so why not have them closer?
I have been using the KLYR exclusively for the past few months, and have some notes:
Weight: The unit is incredibly lightweight. Makes for an easy carry if you hoof it.
Speed: The unit is quick to get the yardage, and calculating the slope takes no extra time.
Accuracy: The actual yardage is pretty accurate, usually with a yard shooting the same flag. Sometimes, the slope calculation differs by a few yards, based on where vertically you shoot the pin.
Magnet: The magnet is a nice feature. Holds well except on the most aggressive bumps. When the unit falls to the ground, it has held up very well. The only negative to the magnet is that I have forgotten the unit on the cart more than once, since I am not used to taking a cart, and I am not used to having it stuck to the side of the roof post.
Case: Case is easy to use, though I fear as the elastic loosens, it won’t be as secure. I wish the case came in a lighter color, as the thing bakes in the summer sun.
Slope deactivation: super easy to deactivate with the slider switch on the side. Also super easy to see if it is enabled with the yellow highlight.
I’ll be taking a Dremel to engrave my name and number on the side, so when I forget it on a cart next time, it will be easier to claim.
Again, I really think the KLYR is punching well above its weight. What a great little rangefinder.

Came to post this today after leaving it on a cart this weekend. Even the bright yellow one that I have didn’t stop me from leaving it behind. That can be said about any rangefinder with a magnet though so it definitely isn’t a knock on KLYR. I just couldn’t believe that I left it after saying I NEVER would be someone that did lol
Luckily the course staff attends to the carts quickly and got it in to the pro shop before someone could take it. I will have it back later this week thank goodness, because leaving it behind really ruined my day. Especially since it was an out of town course.
I got my KLYR that I won from THP on Twitter today. The unboxing experience is just awesome. Very well done by TecTecTec. The unit is extremely light, and feels great.
I also have lost a rangefinder thanks to leaving it attached to the cart, hopefully this one doesn’t meet the same fate. I purchased an older used TecTecTec to replace the laser I lost last season which you can see below in the comparison pics. Just shooting stuff around the yard the performance is night and day between the two. I can’t wait to try this out this week. Many thanks to @JB & @GolferGal for this!!

Yellow is so good
I’m so happy this thread got bumped today. Just pulled the trigger on one of these.
I’ve been pondering getting a range finder for some time. Even during my golf hiatus. Not so much for the way most golfers mostly use them. My ball-striking isn’t (yet?) nearly consistent enough for that. But more to tell how far away things really are at the driving range and to tell how far I really hit the ball on the course.
And this:
I cleared the top of that tree with a drive, late last year. It may seem a bit silly, but I really, really want to know how far away that is and its height, relative to from where I was driving. I can calculate those from range and slope, from which I can calculate how far that drive went. The curiosity’s been nagging me ever since ?
(For perspective: The two closer trees that frame the one further back are about 75-80 yards from where I was.)
I really didn’t think I would be a huge fan of the yellow but the more I use it, the more I love the color and how bright it is!
Anybody know what that digit to the left of the actual yardage is when you have slope turned on?
Don’t have mine on me right now to look through, but if I’m picturing it correctly, I think you’re referring to the degree of slope from you to the target. It’s a single digit number, right?
Nope. That’s upper-left.
Re-read the manual more carefully. It’s on the page labelled “MODE: SLOPE + PIN SEEKER”: Item C) The distance shown, lower left corner, is the up/down (+/-) hill elevation.
That makes sense and [S]more-or-less[/S] agrees with the tree I shot, when I submitted actual yards and slope to a geometry calculator, which gave me the vertical height relative to me. The value displayed was [S]”7″ [/S] “22”. The calculator came up with 22 ft. [S]Rounded-down: Seven yards would be about right.[/S]
ETA: Corrections to above. I re-shot it and found I’d mis-remembered. (Probably got the “7” from the owner’s manual illustrations. I had seemed odd to me they’d display elevation in yards. They don’t.)
I used the KLYR for my round today and it absolutely helped me and my parter. We had multiple shots where our GPS was telling us one thing, and the KLYR had a very different number when lasering the pin. Especially with the slope adjustments. We both adjusted club selections and hit greens which was awesome.
What wasn’t so awesome was losing the KLYR from the cart when we hit our first bigger bump of the day on hole 2. My Precision Pro’s magnet took bumps like a champ and I never once lost it. Hearing the KLYR hit the cart path had me cringe but thankfully aside from a few scrapes it’s fine. I think I’ll be leaving it inside the cart. My next walking round I’ll be trying the belt magnet attachment.
