One of the most interesting things about Titleist and their Vokey Wedges is that they never stop innovating and evolving their sole/grind options. With the biggest Tour Staff out there, Bob Vokey, Aaron Dill, and company continue to create new designs that only broaden their fitting capability. Fortunately for us not on Tour, they also have their WedgeWorks program which makes the new and unique more attainable. Today, the L Grind is expanding those options even further.
Titleist Vokey Design WedgeWorks L Grind
What is the L Grind precisely? Well, it is a tour-proven design which is a low bounce lob wedge that will be available in 58 and 60 degrees. How low bounce you ask? Four degrees of bounce, but of course, there is more to it than just that.
The L Grind is designed for a golfer who wants a low bounce option with heel, toe, and trailing edge relief all rolled into one excellent Vokey package. The leading edge of the L Grind sits closer to the ground making it more useful off thin, firm, as well as deadpan, lies both in square and open positions. The notable thing that differentiates it from the T Grind is that the width and shaping help prevent digging more.
“The L Grind is for the player looking for the versatility of a low bounce wedge,” said Aaron Dill, Vokey Tour Representative. “It’s really the perfect balance of ‘I want versatility, but I also want a little forgiveness to go with it.’ The forward bounce on the L helps reduce dig, but players are still able to open it up and slide under the ball easily. It’s a great option for players looking for a little bit less bounce.”
On Tour, Vokey is in the bag of eight of the top 10 players in the OWGR, and of those eight, six are using a lob wedge with 6 degrees of bounce or less. More notable is that over HALF of all the sand and gap wedges in bags on the PGA Tour are Vokey’s. As for how many of those are using the L Grind itself, the number is growing weekly with names like Max Homa, Michael Kim, and Sungjae Im leading the way.
The Details
The WedgeWorks L Grind will be available in golf shops worldwide as well as Vokey.com beginning 5/15/24. It is being offered in RH as well as LH with the Raw finish in 58 and 60 degree options. The standard package includes the True Temper Dynamic Gold S200 shaft and Titleist Universal 360 grip, but as always WedgeWorks offers every custom option you could imagine in order to fine tune things to your preference. Starting price on the new L Grind will be $225.
Versatility with some forgiveness? Yes.
that sounds perfect!! The T grind is alot of fun to hit indoors (never tried outside) but the L grind sounds like the perfect blend
I like it. Not sure it’s a good fit in this area, but I like the look and lower bounce.
Vokey really pushes the envelope on grinds. So many options out there for consumers.

It’s just hard to know what to ultimately go towards, and I hate that. Online tools help somewhat, but it always feels like a guess and check kinda thing :/

Absent an outdoor fitting, I think it’s all a guess. They are better than most at providing access to fitting though.
I love the L grind. I’m not sure why it is no longer part of the retail lineup maybe the T was more popular.

A thousand percent better, yes.
Love when more options become available to better suit golfers.
I will certainly have to give this an outdoor test next time Titleist does a fitting day at my home course. I am a big user of 58 degree wedge and really want to see how it reacts to our turf around the greens.
This reads to me as being similar to the low bounce K but different as well.
I have the 4 degree T grind and love it. In fact i like it so much i didn’t buy a Mizuno LW with my new irons…..and that’s a big thing for me LOL

Postal service is hating on me at the moment still, but I should have this one in hand here in the next couple days to compare to the T grind in the Vokey SM10 thread!
Great article, James. I really need to educate myself on different grinds and the pros/cons of them.
looking at the shape of the grind looks like something I would like
Gotta love more options! Grind is something that I am quite ignorant on, but I have historically had success using a low bounce lob wedge, so this one definitely piques my interest.
I love that Titleist does these mini online releases.
It gives customers options that wouldn’t make sense volume wise for full retail release, and it also keeps driving traffic to Vokey as a new product release. Even if this particular grind doesn’t work for someone looking into it, the customer’s eyes go to questions like what other grinds do they offer that may work for me better.
In a product line with a two year release cycle, I think these mini-releases make a ton of sense for both the product being released and the line as a whole.

I’m just now starting to wrap my head around the M-grind

I figured that was the case. Kind of surprised though as it seems like the more forgiving option would be better for a larger number of players.
Cool that they keep it an option.

More forgiving is relative in a low bounce blade lob wedge though.

I agree with you on both. I enjoyed the article and I don’t know enough about the different grinds.
After working with the T again today for the first time in a while, I’m really excited for this one to arrive to compare.
Currently a T grind player and love it…remember having L a few years ago as well. Great grind! And curious to see how they go side by side. I don’t think I’ve hit them both at the same time to really see and feel the difference

In between the M and the T, wider than the T, thinner than the M, bounce is low like the T rather than the 8 of the M

I wasn’t aware we were late night vokey talking, I would have napped. Now I’m embarrassed.
I’m liking that comparison. I’m an M grind guy.

Same. M grind is my go to always, it’s never let me down, haha
So, I’m curious to see how this one goes after my last couple rounds being with the T back in the bag.
I love my L 60, it’s the closest Grind so far to feel of my Zing Lob
