Catching up on the action, reading the guys’ recap thoughts, and all the gratitude and support, it’s hard not to be pretty touched by all the people involved, the effort and charity, and all the little things that add up to a such great experience. Truly unique. Congrats to the participants on a great time and competition and thanks for sharing all the joys and struggles and humor and knowledge and making us feel like we wish we there with ya, but kind of are a little bit. Great stuff.
I’m about to board my flight from ATL to RDU and I finally got through the live thread. As the senior member (age only) of team @V14_Heels I wanted to share my thoughts about the last few days.
THP is such a wild place because to think a few dozen people actually followed along with my round of golf today in my match with @Tenputt is mind blowing. The fact it was the second day in a row there was an interesting in my match is even stranger. #teamnotjasonfinley
First I want to thank @JB and @GolferGal for setting this up. JB did his best to heard cats again but I think we were on the clock by hole 3 both days even though we teed off early.
*** An extra special thanks to Morgan because I heard she picked the restaurant’s and dinners were amazing. Probably the best pork chop I’ve had in the last decade at The Cooper last night.
Thank you @JasonFinleyCG and @+7 KPTT for leading both teams during our experience. I was lucky enough to get to play with both of these guys and not only do they work in golf they are golfers who get the THP community.
Jason had the 2 best up and downs this week by a long shot and on Tuesday he played is hard until the end and made us earn everything. I really hope we get a chance to play again where there are not so many pops because I want to get more consistent and be able to finish a round like I saw you do yesterday.
Keenan is a guy that if he didn’t work at TT I think he would just be on THP anyway. He did such a great job keeping the team relaxed and in the moment enjoying where we were today. His great play made it easy to relax because it felt like we were going to be good no matter what.
As far as the rest of the group it makes me stand by the statement I’ve made here before that THP is full of friends you just haven’t met yet.
@V14_Heels did an amazing job in the lead up to the event keeping our foursome connected and even planned the round we played where I live when he was in from out of town. Golfers like me need this guy to make it all come together. It’s a short sample size but I think he would make a great event captain or ass cap for another event on here.
@jfox789 was a great cartner for the last two days. Normally I don’t spend this much time with anyone in there early mid 20s but he set the bar high for the rest of you. For 2 days I got to play my game with an encouraging teammate that accepted my golf limitations. For a true hacker like myself this is worth it’s weight in gold.
*He is also a great player who showed me what is possible on the course more than a few times.
On to the other team.
@BigDill and I were roommates which gave us plenty of time to hang out. (if you knew or bathroom door situation this would be funny) Staying with the opposition seems like it could be awkward but it couldn’t have been any better. I’ve met a few people on here but he has gotten a chance to meet over 120 and only has great things to say about all of them. He also plays really well about 40% of the holes and has potential to get that up to at least 60%.
@Bernoulli is sneaky good and I hear he is getting a name change from all the fairways he hit this week. It’s awesome to see a guy who is so engaged with learning about the parts of the game like shafts that he said he doesn’t have any knowledge of. For a guy who won 9-8 today I think he might be pretending about some of it or he has a natural ability that makes such tech unnecessary. He also won the unofficial best dressed for the week and made me wish I would have packed a sport coat for the trip. I hope our paths cross again soon.
Last but definitely not least is @Tenputt. Craig was the 2 guys I did not get to play with this week but we were next door neighbors so we had a chance to hang out a little during the event. After the event we got a chance to hang out for a few hours with the guys at
Lunch then he gave me a ride to the airport since we were in the same flight. The more time I spent with him the more I realized we actually have a lot in common. I’m going to go on record that if I would have had to play @Tenputt in a head to head match today and not in a separate group he would have mopped the floor with me. Craig is a player with a serious game that would have worn me down with the consistency I’m lacking.
I doubt anyone is still reading at this point but be glad I didn’t go on longer about this great group and this whirlwind 3 days that are about to come to an end.
safe travels everyone and I hope your view leaving FL this afternoon was a good as mine

We’re still reading!
Great recap! I laughed pretty hard at your comment about Keenan being on THP because I think you’re totally right!
Awesome experience and great posting today gents! Loved the match
Congrats fellas – fun follow!
Whew, finally caught up, had a busy day and wasn’t able to follow along live. Congrats to Team @V14_Heels on the victory, but I think everybody involved with such a great experience at an amazing course were winners! Kudos to Callaway Golf and True Temper for their sponsorship, such great folks to have as part of the THP community.

I love the fitting discussion around ball vs. clubhead contributions to fit in here this morning. That’s a great topic and perspective, to look at the ball as a big piece of the fitting puzzle. I am kind of lucky to have a LGS that lets me hit what I like indoors, so I’m pretty dialed in with testing combinations using my gamer.
I’m also exceptionally excited for the new RipTide MX releases! Absolutely can’t wait for those. OG Riptide is an awesome shaft.
One thing we discussed at dinner was that you really need to get the balls on the course and play with your clubs. I would have thought that manufacturers would design their golf balls to work best with their clubs, but the ball category is really independent. I’m telling you, these Chrome Softs are really good.

I’ve been thinking about ball fittings all night now. I’ve truly only have done online ball fittings and think I need to look into a real one.
Am I playing the right ball?
Are my irons the right irons for the ball?
So many questions & thoughts…
I think the iron you play will have an impact, but if I was you I would get what the online recommender states and get a dozen out in the course. You know your game and I bet you will like

How’d the two compare? Were the differences big enough to see without numbers? I’ve been thinking about the LS quite a bit the past few days, but giving the CS X a go first. The CS was pretty money but hard to give it a real test in soft conditions.

I thought that the CS felt better of the face of the club than the Tour BX. The CS LS is defiantly a bit of a firmer feel, but still a really good feeling ball. I don’t think the CS LS is ideal for me on approach, but it is excellent off the tee. The CS has a softer feel which I like for irons and wedges. I thought that I would be giving up ball speed, but my distances today did not seem to suggest that at all, and in fact it was the opposite. There would be days I put the CS LS in play, but the CS will be my ball this winter in Florida.

For the fellas after the matches are over, what clubs did you hit into 15 and 17?

I hit a Driver on 15 and put the ball on the green about 15 feet from the pin. On 17, I hit a 5 wood. That one ended up in the water. There was wind to contend with along with a difficult shot.
Back home. The shower was amazing and it was probably a good thing I washed the pond water off before bed.
Going back to reality tomorrow will be a big let down after the last few days.

Really sweet prize!! A few of us went to the PGA Superstore after lunch before our flights to hit the hybrids.
I loved the Epic Hybrid. Thinking about the 2 turned down a degree to replace my 3 wood.
In anticipation of this event, I purchased new Callaway Apex irons and an X Forged driving iron and have been really impressed with the clubs, especially the dispersion. Way tighter than anything I have ever played. Can’t wait to get one of these in the bag too. Callaway is crushing it right now.

I hope you enjoy your hybrid. Do keep us posted about your success. Seeing you hit the demo leads me to conclude the Callaway hybrid will work for you,
And going to PGA Tour Superstore after the experience ended was truly a THP move. I was happy to be part of it.
My flight was delayed and delayed. It’ll be 2 am before I pull into my driveway making for a casual 20 hour day. Woofta. So worth every minute but I’m definitely wore out.

Just caught up as well. It looks like everyone had a great time. I always feel bad when I can’t follow along live but I can imagine how great of a time was had and that course looked simply amazing.
I was off work all week last week so this whole week at work has been murder trying to get caught up. So hectic in fact it completely slipped my mind this experience happened this week. I’m bummed I didn’t get to follow along live.
Now I have another thing to get caught up with. But this I will actually enjoy getting caught up unlike the 800+ emails and fires to put out. ?
Hopefully by this weekend I can get read thru on this thread. This was one of the experiences I was most excited to follow.

@gkeller813 special thanks to you for your support and encouragement for this experience. I’m sad that you couldn’t be a part of this experience but was happy to have you supporting both teams.
And I wasn’t kidding a few days back when I indicated I may hit driver on the Bear Trap par 3s.:D
Glad to have been a part of it and follow along! It was a blast, and you guys should be proud!
As for that club selection, you know your game, because that shot was great! Congrats on a great overall round too!
Glad to hear everyone had safe travels returning home. This event really was a blast to follow along with, well done to all of you guys!

The big issue with this is that every ball has a different aerodynamic profile. So, what. is the system using to predict that? i can give you 3 balls with the same exact launch conditions that would have totally different results as they fly. through the air.

Question for you if you can answer it. I did an outdoor ball fitting with Titleist when they came to my club and they fit me into the PV1X. Which Chrome Soft should I try if I don’t have access to a full fitting. Is it the regular Chrome Soft?

Clubs are picked up at the airport and I’m headed to the house.

The THP experience blues when you are heading home, but such great memories
I am finally (mostly) caught up.
Super unique experience, with half of it played on a super unique course.
Bravo to the THPers, you guys killed it, and a shoutout to the companies who made it happen.

I know I’m not Finley but if you’re looking for most comparable, it would be the CSX. Both the PV1X and the CSX are their higher compression, higher spinning/more workable ball.
The thanks start at @JB and @GolferGal obviously. The community they have created to be able to host these events is honestly mind-blowing when you zoom out and just think about it. JB is out there to basically throw a golf party for complete strangers, that he doesn’t even get to play in. He’s legit working the entire time to bring US content during the event. I like you all, but I’m not sure I could do it. It’s incredible what he has put together, so thank you thank you thank you. JB was also just incredibly encouraging to me yesterday. I definitely struggled mentally and drifted away from the experience cause I was so frustrated in my play, but JB reminded me of where I was at, he helped me understand grain on the greens, and even told me directly I’m going to be just fine at playing golf, it just takes time. And I even got a cool sand shot from himIt was great to meet him.
I spent a good chunk of time with Keenan @+7 KPTT , he was my partner for both days of the event actually. Keenan is the type of guy that is just cool as a cucumber. It’s hard not to have a man crush on this guy (I ain’t scared to say it, don’t judge me). By day 2, it was like I had a caddie. He knew my shot shape, he knew my club distances, and he was telling me what to do and where to aim anytime I asked. I learned a ton in just two days of playing golf with him. Shots I would have never considered, he had me taking and I didn’t execute on all of them, but I certainly hit alot of good ones that I would have never considered. I sucked yesterday, but played well Wednesday, and still even yesterday Keenan was supportive, and usually reminded me that the Miller Lite sitting in my cart was still cold and I should enjoy it.
@JasonFinleyCG was one of two I never got to play with, but he’s exactly what you would imagine him to be. He’s very proud of the company he works for, has a WEALTH of knowledge about all things golf, is hilariously funny, talks trash and is just a life of the party kind of guy. It was an honor to hear him talk and just be able to banter back and forth with him in general. I’m definitely disappointed I didn’t get to play with him, but it’s just how the event unfolded and is what it is. I really hope to meet him again someday, hopefully my game will show up in front of him that day too.
@jfox789 was my roomate and I couldn’t of asked for much more there. He’s a young guy still (I had 10 years on him) with such a bright future ahead of him both inside of golf and outside of golf, and he was super easy for me to get along with. The dude ended up with a 74 yesterday on the Champions Course I believe. He’s an absolute stick, and the crazy part is he’s never really been fit, he isn’t a complicated golfer, he just plays his game and crushes the snot out of the ball. I mean…one laser after another. He isn’t one of those guys that has bags of equipment laying around, he has what works and sticks to it, so I’m reallllly curious to see what happens with his bag after all he’s learned because obviously Keenan and Jason made the value of a fitting pretty crystal clear to him, haha. I would not be shocked at all to see him at scratch after a fitting and some new stuff. He was a joy to watch.
@Carolina Dundee I had met before the event. He’s also a pretty darn laid back dude. He probably thinks I’m psycho because I’m not quite as laid back haha. I like a plan and details, but he was great leading up to the event, and he was great after the event yesterday. He continued to remind me you gotta shake off the bad rounds and continue to play. Brent and I will certainly play with some regular cadence, he’s a really easy guy to get along with. He’s a two hour drive away, and will absolutely be a life long golf buddy.
@BigDill is another guy I can’t say enough about. Being the only local for this experience his hospitality was off the charts. He picked me up and hauled my butt 1.5 hours to the event, took me to the airport yesterday through horrible traffic. Had dinner planned for my arrival date. He brought beers, he brought water, he brought coffee, he had a wealth of knowledge around THP history and other THP’rs and talks highly of ALL OF THEM. I just don’t even know how to describe it, but the guy was one of the most hospitable guys I’ve ever met. He gave so much to make the experience great for all of the rest of us COMPLETE strangers, which is super super cool. You need a guy like this at every event. He delivered.
@Bernoulli was the 2nd guy, I didn’t actually end up getting to play with, but we all know the story here. If you’re under the age of 18, ear muff it for me, he straight whooped my ass yesterday. I was disappointed obviously in my play, but I’m not even sure I would’ve beat him with my best day, all in all it was very humbling. I liked that matchup, I felt good going into Wednesday and well…lol. I got a chance to talk to him, and overall Bernoulli is a super genuine nice guy. He, like me was in awe at times of just being at PGA National and being able to play golf there and with all these great people in the industry. It was a pleasure to meet you Bernoulli
Finally, @Tenputt , I got a chance to not only see Tenputt play, but also sat down to eat breakfast with him the last day. He’s just a great guy, we got to talk a little about life and I thoroughly enjoyed the conversation. I hope I can get out to Salt Lake some day and play with him. He had a personality and demeanor VERY close to my father which made me feel right at home. And even though he was a competitor he still encouraged me and suggested I don’t give myself enough credit which is always refreshing to hear. But he’s a great golfer. I was in awe to see him strike the ball as one of the older guys of the group. And I mean his short game was stunning as well. Just a great guy overall!
That’s alot of text, but for those of you still reading…as my first THP experience, I can personally say it’s everything you think it’s going to be and more. My emotions were an absolute roller coaster like I’ve never experienced. You go from teary eyed AWE at just being around some of the biggest names in the industry, playing at a course the pros play at, to just genuinely happy walking around snapping pictures to share it as well as you can with you guys at home. I had more than a few Miller Lites with Keenan while we golfed, to frustrated on bad shots, to sad when the event is over in a blink of an eye. It’s just so much to take in, in all of the very best ways possible! It was an absolute privilege to experience it, and I can’t wait to sign up for dozens more to come to hopefully get the opportunity to be a part of one again. It was literally a dream come true for me.

Love every bit of this man! I’m insanely hard on myself when I don’t play golf up to a level I know I can. What I’ve learned from the group I’m in an event with, is no one cares how you play. These are about more than the golf. Even if there is a competition aspect to it.
I know it’s easier for me to say, and I’m going to want you to say it to me in a month, but you will remember the time you spent with everyone a lot longer than what kind of shots you hit that day.
It was a blast following you man and I hope to see you in other experiences in the future!

Great write up @V14_Heels its obvious to see how much you enjoyed the experience and what you got from it.
Its always great to take the time and enjoy the moment the golf can be good, bad or indifferent. Having that experience with other like minded THPers is something to be cherished.

It’s was a pleasure to share this Experience with you. I enjoyed immensely the time spent off the course with you (we unfortunately didn’t get to play). I hope someday we can tee it up at another experience or if paths cross.
You will always be the first THPer that I personally met. I’ll remember and treasure that more than the result of our match yesterday. You just got me on one of my best days in a long time.
I really enjoyed your teammates. It was a pleasure to share this experience with the 3 of you. Both @jfox789 and @Carolina Dundee were great guys.

Thanks for the kind words, but I promise you that the pleasure was all mine. It was such a fun time meeting everyone, learning about two really fantastic brands, and playing some really enjoyable golf. Every time I am at one of these events, it just blows my mind how well THP, the THP forum members, and the companies like Callaway Golf and True Temper treat us. It’s just unreal that I get to say that I played a round of golf with both @+7 KPTT and @JasonFinleyCG, much less got two days to talk to them at dinners and just learn so much more about the business of golf and how that trickles down to the weekend player like us. I am glad that we got to experience that as a group, and hope that everyone that reads this gets to go to a THP experience at some point, because it’s just unbelievable how great they are.
One lesson learned from this event that I am VERY VERY sad to admit, is the chipper has probably got to go. I think the chipper has worked well for me because Richmond must have some of the slowest greens known to man. And we just don’t have a ton of elevated greens. The pace on the match course was at least 2x faster than what I’m used to playing and it felt like almost every single green was elevated, and the champions course was probably 3x. My little chipper has served me incredibly well on slow greens, but my short game was brutal with it on faster greens that I hadn’t really experienced, so it’s off to get fitted for wedges, among a slew of other things.
I’m expecting my handicap is going to go up before it drops again, but it’s probably time.

Thanks for sharing this! I’m sure I wasn’t the only one that was wondering where all the chipper action was lol

For the long term, I think getting comfortable with some new wedges would be a great idea! Lots of options out there!

I think that is an experience with faster greens issues. I do change clubs sometimes when the greens are really fast but I don’t chip with wedges I use 6-9i depending on length I want the ball to roll out and the speed of the greens.

Find something with a wider sole and you should be pretty good with some light practice. You won’t miss a beat and will end up better on the other side due to the versatility you will be adding.
