Callaway X-Hot & X-Hot Pro Driver Preview Thread

Great and congrats on your journey. Read some of your preliminary opinions, surprised that you feel the 6.5 to be a little loose. Maybe going down to 45.25 will correct some of that unless you are one of those high swing speed long drive specialists known to operate out of Johnson City, TN!!! Look forward to seeing your personal evaluations on this one

LOL... And thank you!!

My swing speed is around 105-108, can go up but if I'm swinging "normally" that's my range. So, NO, not the long drive specialist from JOCY. I still move it pretty good though for a 40-something.

Funny you say that as well. This morning I removed the grip, cut the shaft to 45.25" and put the grip back on. Ironically, it does feel the tiniest bit tighter. It felt loose(r) than the Diamana 'ahina in S flex but they are very close now (and I know that shaft is great for me). I don't know why they keep putting 45.75"-46" shafts in anyway. The sticker under the grip on the shaft said 46" raw length, so perhaps they just don't want the added cost of cutting shafts prior to grip install. Nevertheless, I'm very anxious to get this puppy out!!!

I still don't know if I like the shaft color. Anyone ever heard of these guys? VIBRANT GOLF

After the shaft change to my 4x, which was 8g lighter and 1 1/4" shorter, plus a heavier grip, the swing weight was dropped to around C1, RIDICULOUSLY low since stock is D3. I couldn't feel the head, I usually play SW between D3-D5 in my drivers, I just neglected to check it like I usually do when I made this swap. It doesn't bother some, but it does me as I'm a big feel guy and like to know where the head is in my swing.

This is an old quote, but I just checked mine and with my 5x asha, it was around D3. Two strips of tape at the very back, now at E0. Time to experiment

Just a quick update. Since I'm not a fan of the shaft color, I ordered a Diamana 'ahina 60 S to compare head up with the Anser 'ahina combo (again, when the freakin' snow stops). It's suppose to be in the 60s late next week so hopefully I'll have some numbers on this puppy...

What the hell color was that shaft "hot pink". Just kidding . I have never seen the PRO what color are they using, looks white or maybe light silver on their web site. Hopefully you will be reviewing both shafts. Are you going to remove the adapter or purchase another?

Same color as the NON-Pro X Hot just a different color sticker, blue vs red. It's a light-grey toward the white side. If it were white, It'd already be out!! Not a white shaft kinda guy...

No, I'm leaving the adapter on the Project X and ordering another. I may do a Tour Authentic adapter, haven't decided yet. Yes, I will review both shafts. I've always had good results from the Diamana 'ahina (aka whiteboard) shafts because of the low torque. Helps with the dispersion plus I hope to pick up a couple of swing weight points in the 62 gram shaft of the 'ahina vs the 76 gram of the Project X. I really like the head of the 10.5* and it sits perfectly at address in the "O" position.

So I finally got a chance to hit the XHOT Pro driver today. I really liked the head a lot. All they had was a 8.5 loft which I was fine with. I loved the grey look at address always has been a favorite of mine. I still don't feel like the project X shaft was enough for me. I really have never liked project X shafts in fairway woods or drivers. Steel shafts are a different story for me. I was seeing a bit more of a fade but I expected that with the slightly open face. I still would love to get a stout shaft in this and have a few swings. Even the black tie might be nice in this. I do feel like the head shape is better being a bit smaller than the regular X HOT. Hoping Callaway opens the shaft options for these for the MC cause I still think with a good shaft for me this could be a huge bomber. I was still getting good distance just couldn't get into any and felt like I had to slow my swing down a bit. Was to whippy. But the face is still so hot on these that I have to think if I get paired with a good shaft this is gonna be a bomber. The only other question is consistency. The XTREME still is leading that category by far but the black tie has a lot to do with that. Making me look forward to the Texas invitational even more. Think it will help me narrow my decisions down in quite a few areas.

Stupid question but does anyone know if the Callaway shaft adapter / tip on the RAZR fit is compatible with the x hot?

Yes it is, same/same...

This is a lot of what I feel (even though I haven't actually hit it) in the shaft. Hopefully I'll get a chance to test it next weekend. Did the one you hit have a 6.5 shaft??

Yep I tried the 6.5

Yes the adapter fits in all callys new drivers. Only difference between the adapter in the razr fit and the adapter in the new drivers is the shaft hosel i.d. (.350 in razr fit)(.335 in new drivers)

Yep, right on! But, no worries as you can still get .350 or .335 adapters and both work in past and present models.

I am planning to order a 10.5 xhot next week. I am thinking about ordering a bit shorter than the standard 46". Does/will callaway do anything to keep the swingweight the same ?

If you call them and do a custom order, just tell the rep what length & swing weight you want and YES, they build it for you. I did this exact thing on my X Hot Pro 4-wood. You can also request the Pro shaft (which is the true aftermarket shaft) at no additional upcharge...

Questions. So a .350 razr fit adapter with a .350 shaft will fit in the x hot and x hot pro even though they are .335. Does that also mean that a .350 RAZR fit ADAPTER will also work perfectly fine IN razr fit TA even though the TA project X shafts are .335
If the answer to both is yes I never thought it would be. The outside dimensions of the adapters must be the same size regardless of whether or not you are using a razr fit adapter .350 for a 350 shaft or a razr fit .335 adapter for a .335 shaft. I assume it would also be true that my Razr FIT tour authentic with the .335 project x in the .335 tour authentic adapter would work fine in a razr fit head or for that matter the x hot or x hot pro.
Thanks for any answers on this.

Hit the 10.5 today, solid as usual, not sure on numbers though cause was hitting into the nets. Really love the 10.5 more than the 9.5 which I cant say about every driver out there for my game.

That is my understanding of the mechanics...

The adapter's external dimensions are evidently the same regardless of the shaft size. So it's kind of a one-size-fits-all approach?!?!

That's all correct. The outer diameter of all the adapters is the same. The inner diameter is what varies.

Thanks for clearing that up , I just always assumed that there would be a difference in the outside dimension of the adapters.

Thanks for the help on that, I was guilty of old school thinking .350 hosel = .350 shaft and vice versa on .335. Never realized this, just wrongfully assumed outside dimensions were different.

Haha. I wrongfully assumed the other way. I just assumed they offered the two sizes so you can use any shaft and never verified if it was correct.

Thanks to everyone who confirmed this for me.

****Tappin' it in cuz I #SeeMore****

These gentlemen are correct with the outer dimensions being the same and the inner hosel dimensions being different. Callaway switched to a .335 inner hosel dimension per tour feed back is what ive been told from Callaway reps. The reason being that the .350 hosel required them to use shims to install .335 id shafts which reduced feel in the driver. Thats why last year almost all Callaway tour pros used the standard razr fit but had the tour authentic adapter installed in their driver.

pretty excited that i'm getting an X HOT Driver.... after today and getting a chance to use an XTreme for an entire round with a decent shaft in it made me realize that that will prob make my bag for the morgan cup but since i'm getting a chance to get the X HOT i'm gonna game it for a while and see how it performs on the course for me. I really feel like this still could be a great driver for me i'm hoping i like the X Flex shaft and it fits my swing better than the Stiff shafts i've hit. i still want this to work for me, worse comes to worse i try some other shafts in it and i'm sure i can find something that is a decent combo even if it doesnt' beat out the XTreme.

For unknown reasons don't know why they disliked the Tour Authentic head and chose the regular Razr fit head. I would never rely on a shim band aid type sizing fix, do it right the first time and remove the doubt.
