A couple of years ago nearly to the day, Mizuno launched their latest in the line of JPX irons, with the 921. Today, we get a look into the future with the JPX923 irons, yet we are not able to share a lot with you as of yet.
Hitting the USGA Conforming list are what you would expect, and a couple of things you probably wouldn’t have expected.
JPX923 Forged and Tour irons
JPX923 Hot Metal and Hot Metal Pro Irons
JPX923 Hot Metal HL
LH Forged Irons
As mentioned, it is a bit too early to bring a lot of the information, we can share that in the near future we will not only have full details, but also have these irons in the hands of THP Forum Members for full user review as well as our detailed thoughts on the technology.
Stay tuned for more coming soon on the entire line of new JPX irons. As always for the latest in availability, check out their website at www.mizunogolf.com.
In a good way?
Yes, very much so. The HL with the Recoil 95 shaft gave me better launch, carry, peak height, and spin than the Hot Metals with the same shaft. It actually felt a little better to me as well. I can’t wait to see all the details on Friday. I’m planning to go back and spend more time hitting them and comparing to the Hot Metals. I was going to swap the steel shafts in my 921 Hot Metals for graphite, but now I think I’ll just do a custom order for the 923’s and trade or sell my 921’s.
I am going to get the 923’s, just not sure which ones. The High Launch have me intrigued. I currently game Callaway Steelhead XR irons and the ball flight is crazy low. I may lean toward the Hot Metal JPX923 HL if they can help me get the ball flight higher. Also intrigued by the Recoil 95 shafts. Hear so many good things about these. I am hoping that either Golftec or Golf Galaxy get these in stock in October so I can go hit them. I was considering a smaller head profile this time around which has me interested in the Hot Metal Pros also. I am a 10 handicap and not sure if I should be looking for LESS forgiveness. Only thing I know for certain is that I have been waiting 53 years to get Mizuno irons and the time has come.
Coming from the champ that is a big endorsement!
I really like the smaller head profile as well, but as 15-16 handicap, I’m just not consistent enough to game those. I was considering the Hot Metal Pros and really like the look of them in the 923’s. But, my one complaint with my current 921 Hot Metals is that they launch a little low. So I hit the HL, expecting to gain height, but lose a little distance, but that wasn’t the case. I will say the HL is a little larger and has a bit more offset, but Mizuno does a pretty good job of hiding it. My biggest concern was offset, since I tend to miss left, but the HL was right there with the HM and dispersion was as good or maybe even slightly better with the HL. Again, it’s a small sample size, but I was surprised at how well I hit the HL and how good it felt.
The fitting suggested 1/4” over and 2.5 degrees upright. I ordered them 1/2” over and 2 degrees upright on project X IO 6.0 shafts. Debating switching to 1/4” over but liked the feel of the 1/2” over shafts they had available for fitting.
head size was actually pretty similar as far as length. Much thinner sole on the 225. Top lines comparable. Both look great in person.
littttle bit more offset on the HMP in appearance. I hit both heads 2 degrees upright with 1/2” over shafts and my dispersion was super tight with the HMP.
HMP felt like a heavier head which I liked. I think the 225 would be fantastic for a lot of people here. More traditional looks with a lot of forgiveness and ball speed.

Damn. Needed the sand to cushion the impact on that meteor! ?
The group in front of us had that same reaction as it bounced between them and their cart. Oops!! ?
Where was that last week? ?
Very nice mate!
Only I couple of more days. I will be up at midnight tomorrow. Anyone interested in feedback should be too!
I don’t need sleep! Lots of coffee on Friday, yes, but sleep can wait!
Yes! I have a question for @McLovin that’s been simmering for a good while now. He laughed at my attempt to get an answer. But I need it. I need the answer.
And yet you… at least waited? Possibly. So many questions…
No, actually just one.
So that’s why!!
Thank you for your cooperation.
I really am excited to hear from you guys about what you chose and why. And why not. Sounded like the HMPs are a big hit. It’s going to be a fun day here.
What course do you play most down there?
Burlington Country Club
I hit the HL with the Recoil 95 and it seemed like a really good combo, for me, at least. Anything in particular you didn’t like about the ESX 460’s?
It just seemed so light and I seemed to not be able to feel the club head in space but honestly my swing wasn’t the best that day so I’m not blaming the club or shaft. The trajectory was wonderful when I put a good swing on them.
Beautiful! Mizuno has done a great job with these and they hide the size and offset very very well.
I hit the ESX awhile back in the 921 Hot Metals and liked the shaft, but worried about going too light. I did pick up some speed with those though and trajectory was good. The Recoil 95s felt really great with the 923 HL head and the numbers were pretty good for me. I’m wondering what the stock offerings will be when they are released.
This was my thought exactly when I saw the HL at address. It looked smaller to my eye than it really is and really looked good overall.
Question: Would it be beneficial for me to get a baseline with my old 8i? I haven’t been on a SIM with the old clubs since really early in the year and I’m sure my numbers with the old clubs have likely improved since then.
What other tests or scenarios would people like to see the 923 HMP’s put through from a mid cap (8.9) player? I’m here to serve..
One word…yes.
yep! The data and information would be awesome to see.
Cannot wait for the article to hit and THP’ers to just go crazy with feedback
On a side note, love(d) that 910-D!!?
I am a 10 handicap and pretty much convinced that the HMP’s will be my irons for 2023. And this is without them even being released yet. Anything you can tell us will help solidify my decision. Giddy like a schoolgirl over here in Akron, Ohio!
Yes sir, we will provide you with information overload to help guide you to the light…lol
I mean, it’s already 9/23 in Japan, right? Does that count?
I told y’all it was already 9/23 in Japan. ?
The Mizuno website said Jan 2023 for forged as that is what I would be interested in.

They’re just a smidge more compact. Voshall had a really cool interview response once about how it they go smaller they run into playability issues, so I imagine changes there would be about this minor and only come as a trade off for other new benefits/tech. Could be wrong, but it makes some sense based on what he said.
There is a video set to premiere today where he might do this.
