Last month Cobra Golf dropped their latest hybrid and it was sort of a surprise release timing wise. The Cobra KING Tec Hybrid immediately looked high tech (no pun intended), but how would it perform?
Today we are in the THP Tech Studio for another episode of TESTED! Where you see the swings and get a full breakdown of the data on the new Cobra KING Tec Hybrid. The video below starts off with some technology talk, and we walk you through overhead what is going on with this new hybrid. Then we hop into the hitting bay for some swings and finally, we breakdown the information that the Foresight GCQuad presented and give you some final thoughts.
This episode is full of information and data. Can this hybrid unseat some of their previous offerings with rails? How does the face angle sit and is it prone to hooking? We cover all of it in this review of the Cobra KING Tec hybrid that is just now hitting stores.
After watching the THP TV video above, what are your initial thoughts on this piece of equipment?
For more information on this specific club or anything else from the complete lineup from Cobra Golf, check out their website at www.cobragolf.com.

Love this right here. My 3w is so bad and if I could play this 2H lofted down would be really nice for me.
I do give up a little distance when comparing top end to top end but let’s just say my 3 wood, really 4 wood, distance spread is large.
What does your gapping look like between the two hybrid and your irons?
2h – 225 (king tec)
3h – 215 (king tec)
4h – 200 (radspeed)
I am thinking the 2 h spread grows a bit as the 3h has much more data and the 2h only has shots in sub 50 degree weather, including multiple rounds in the 30’s where you just don’t much distance based on the cold and lack of clubhead speed due being bundled up
I play my 19 at stated loft and it’s a smooth easy 230 carry. 17 UW is 240-245 with the same swing.
If this is the case and these really are as easy to hit as advertised, I think the D, 2h, 3h set up might be the way to go.
Current set up is D(9°) / 4w(17°) / 3 ui (19.5°). I love the 4w and the 3ui off the tee if driver isn’t right but they’re both so inconsistent off the deck.
If just added the LTDx Max fairway to the my mix of top of bag options. Early returns are that it’s a bit longer off the tee and just as easy off the deck (with a sample size of one :ROFLMAO:). I will keep the threads updated with my experience but if fairway woods have always given you issues it’s an option, for sure.
I was looking at 4H before I got into the edel experience but am waiting to see if the new set has a 4i and how I hit it. Ideally, I can play this 2h at stated loft not and 210-220 and then a more consistent club in the 4 spot. But I don’t trust my OL 4i much and have been using the 2H for most shots 185-220. When at stated loft, if there was trouble over 215 I didn’t want to hit 2h. Lofted I have hit 215, but 205 is my plan.

Bumping this for some input:
Top of my bag is the Apex UW 17 degree. I can do most reasonable things with it and a full swing flushed is about a 240 carry. It has been as high as 250 off of tee. Not changing.
Next is the King Tec 19 degree set at 18 degree draw setting. I can carry it 235 on a perfect shot but consistently hit it 220-225 without any worries or difficulty. Settings really are just due to ball flight.
King Tour 4 iron. When perfect its a great 200 carry and feels amazing. Problem is, I hit my 5 iron 190 consistently without being afraid of it. I can’t say that about the 4 iron. I don’t even attempt to game the 3 iron.
I need a 205-210 carry club. Only time I use clubs in this range is par 3s and the +500 par 5s. It is a weakness on approach noted on my Arccos and it seems it is trickling into other clubs trying to swing to hard with the 4 iron down through the bag.
I’ve decided on another King Tour. I am ok with 20 yard gap at this part of the bag. Considering I play the 3H at 18D, would I be a safer bet to get a 5H and play it at 23D for the purpose of ball flight, or loft up a 4H and adjust weights? I really would prefer to stay with Cobra on this club. I’ve hit all the others and the only change I would consider is Ping G425 4H that I can loft up and flatten.
Open for suggestions.
Have you considered any versions of the LTDx or LTDx Max 22.5 deg. 7 wood? It is also adjustable.

7 wood was a disaster last year. Couldn’t keep flight down
Based on how you intended to use the club I thought a 7 wood might give you a high trajectory to hold greens. Could always put a low trajectory shaft in I guess.
I switch out my 7 wood for my 4 utility iron when it is windy. Another option if you are looking for lower ball flight.
No chanvce it will be a 7 wood. I gave last years away.
I feel like the 4H gives you more long term flexibility in case the iron gapping changes on the other side.

Without having hit them, my first thought is the 5H. You would get the same loft sleeve and weight positions of the 3h, and the benefit of a 1/2″ shorter shaft.
So my swing has been a little lost in the wilderness a bit the last few months but I found a little something this evening. Hit two tee balls with the 3H. I forgot just how good these feel when centered, with such a great penetrating ball flight ?

So true…. I was 225 out to a severely elevated green on a par 5. Thought was just get it close to the edge. The shame is I missed the 10 foot eagle putt. An awesome club that is as forgiving (in my opinion) as any hybrid on the market.

and I have the 2H lofted down to replace the 3w slot in the bag
love the versatility on these things.
This is where mine is headed.
I got to hit the King Tec hybrid today and it definitely has a more metallic ring to it then the LTDX hybrids.
Steady goes it. Does what it is supposed to do when I give it a swing it deserves.
Absolutely love this club. Initially I wanted it to fill the 200 yard slot in the bag and after 2 rounds Arccos has my average yardage with it as 206. When I put good swings on it this one flat out performs.
Just managed to bag a nearly new 3H one of these (9/10 condition) for £170 ($230).
The adjustability is going to be great for me to dial in shot shape and hopefully the perfect gapping between my 3W (15°) and 5i (21.5°).
I am ditching my One Length 3H Radspeed as I just can’t seem to get it to work for me. I used to love hitting my old Adams 3H in the same loft, so I’m sort of going back to what I know.
Hit this today at the range. Had a great time playing around with the adjustability.
Ended up settling for standard loft in the draw setting and weights in the most forgiving setting (12g toe and heel). In this setting I found I could hit it laser straight or a slight fade.
Loved the amount of forgiveness too. One very heely strike still went dead straight and probably 90% of usual distance.
The stock MMT Regular flex shaft feels maybe slightly heavy for me personally at 73g (I play a 60g driver shaft, and a 39g 3W shaft!!) but I can’t see it being an issue on the course once I’m more used to it.
Looking forward to playing a round with it now.
Put two par 5 approaches past the pin with a 3H yesterday. I love this club.
I had to look 15 pages back for this. Including the Apex UW and G425 22H, this club at 18 degrees is the easiest and most consistent to hit with minimal effort. I hope this thread grows a lot in the near future. I’m considering swapping my UW for a 17 degree. Yes, its that good for me.

So I went crazy for the Morgan Cup and ordered three King Tec Hybrids. I ordered the 2, 3, & 4 hybrid because I’venever been a great fw off the deck ball striker. In very limited testing of the King Tec 3h, I was sold that the 2 could fill a decent gap between driver and 3h. Today confirmed that.
I was hitting slightly into a wind coming off the right. The 2h is an absolute missile launcher. The ball comes off the face so hot and it’s a penetrating flight. I was getting the ball to the 240 marker with ease and that was off the deck. This might end up being my new favorite club to hit.
The 3 & 4 were just as fun and easy to hit. Both have a nice flight that I’m sure will hold the greens without issue.
I did change the weight to the smallest weight on the toe of the 2 so I could get a little straighter and lower flight. I left the heavy weights on the heel and toe so I could get the little higher ball flight.
I can’t wait to go play a round and see how these perform on course. Next range session will be testing these off the tee.

15.5 is basically a 3W. What are the differences other than maybe a little shaft length?

How did you set up the weights? I went heavy in heel & middle to get a straighter flight maybe slight draw bias in the 2. I left the 3 & 4 stock setup

I was exactly the same as you, heel and middle. It’s a club where moving the weights about had a bigger effect than any other club I have tried, seemed to have the right combination of flight and height that I was looking for. I’ve never been much use with lower lofted hybrids though, swing speed is not my friend but I seem to do OK with a 5w for some reason. Time will tell!

Took the 2h back to the range last week as it has been out of the bag the last few months. Like riding a bike. So easy to hit. Need to keep it ready in case I need it in North Carolina instead of the utility.

Got out for the first time with the new King Tec Hybrids in the bag for 9 holes. When I made my decision on the top end of the bag for the Morgan Cup, I went 2, 3, & 4 Hybrid. I did this because I had tested the 3 in my local golf shop and it felt great. I wanted to give myself something long and straight off the tee when driver wasn’t the play, but also easy to hit off the fairway on long par 5’s. My first impressions say I made the right choice.
I played a course that’s new to me. Most of the fairways were right with tree trouble if you missed either direction. I hit hybrids on 5/7 tee shots today and only missed one fairway. That was just long through the fairway on a small dogleg so not the worst miss.

Not only were they going straight, but they were going long! To have these options off the tee and stay in the fairway will be huge for my game. I know it’s a limited sample size but I’m excited about them. The next round is a tournament on Saturday morning.

Those are big numbers there 😳 I’ve had a couple of lower lofted hybrids in the bag previously but never managed to really elevate them well. These are suggesting I maybe should have given them a stronger look!
I’m hoping to swap the Apex UW for a 2H very soon. Play it as a back up tee club at 15.5 degrees.
Got out for my second full round with these yesterday (45 holes total now). I was very glad I had these because my driver swing fell apart.
The 2h continues to one of my favorite clubs from my Morgan Cup bag. It’s a long fairway finding machine and so easy to hit. Between the three hybrids I’ve hit 12/16 fairways. Two of those misses were long through the fairway at the dogleg so not a big deal. No real bad misses at all.
2h is 7/8 fairways and averages 252yds
3h is 3/4 fairways and averages 236yds
4h is 1/2 fairways and averages 226yds
The other reason I went these over FW was to have an easier to hit option off the deck. I’ve had a few chances to do this now and been happy with the results. I’m playing 9 with my wife tonight and I’m planning to play the red tees with her using these without a tee to get a better idea of my off the deck distances.

Another round in the books with these. I’m fairly certain the 2h is my new favorite club. I hit it on all but one hole off the tee today. It’s such a nice reliable feeling and provides plenty of distance. I’m sitting at 69% fairways with it through 3.5 rounds. That’s some team Hackers numbers ?. The one thing I did notice is that if I get lazy about ball positioning and let it get just a little further forward, the hook comes into play quickly. I have the heavy weights heel & center to promote more draw shape.
These hybrids are very easy to hit off the deck and have been going nice and straight for me there. I’m finally feeling comfortable going after par 5 greens in two. These clubs are putting less pressure on me to hit driver perfect on these holes so that area is improving. I hit this green in two for the first time ever today and made an easy birdie. This is what I was really hoping to get from these hybrids.

I had one chip out of some ugly rough with the 2h today and got up & down to save par. I also had two punch shots from the trees that I used the 2h. One got onto the green from about 125 out and the other stopped on the fringe. I stole pars on both holes.

Received my 4 and 5 hybrids with the MMT shaft for the Morgan Cup bag yesterday. Hit a few balls inside and I like what I’m seeing so far. They aren’t a compact hybrid of course but I didn’t find them to be too big. I really like the contrast on the head, the grey strip makes it feel like I’m lining up a “blade” if that makes sense. Feel is a nice combo of “solid” and “tech”. The MMT shaft seems to be a good pairing with this head and feels really stable. In the stock settings, the 5h goes about the same as my current 5h, and the 4h goes just a couple yards shorter than my 21* UW. Haven’t started tinkering with lofts or weight settings yet. Felt I was hitting it pretty straight with the stock weight settings so I don’t immediately see a need to change those. Could see maybe bumping up the loft on the 5h and down on the 4h but we’ll see once the FWs arrive and I get settled in with the rest of the clubs.
Initial thoughts on the 3h and 4h:
really enjoyed these two clubs today. It seemed they were just as forgiving and easy to hit as any of my previous hybrids. No issues with hooks, just hit straight, slightly fading bombs. I also really enjoyed the MMT shafts in these. They feel really good and stable when I go after it.
Did you leave the weights in the stock setup?
So the 3h I left in the “front”/stock set-up and the 4h I switched to the light weight in the toe to get a bit more launch and draw bias. Definitely will look to potentially adjust more once I get a better idea for yardages and a more consistent swing as I am working on some things right now.
I’m doing some shaft pondering on my Tec 4h and 5h. The last month or 2 I’ve been fighting a block miss as I’ve worked on some swing tweaks, and the Tecs have been no different. After starting with them in std loft and neutral weights, I switched to Standard draw setting but without a huge reduction in the push miss. I’ve been hitting a toe miss occasionally as well, but typically with hybrids I can manage that into a drop kick that minimizes the damage. But the Tecs so far have been a block even with the toe miss.
Tonight my miss with driver/iron/wedges was a pull draw which is much more natural to me. The 2 shots I hit with the hybrids were both big blocks still, one a semi-punchout and one a long par 3 tee shot. Even the “re-dos” on the tee shot were very similar results.
I’ll try moving the weights heel side and maybe the +1D lofts for science, but I like the gapping and height in the standard settings so I’m not too sure about that.
If the shaft is to blame (it might not be ?), I think it’s that the MMT is a little too stiff/stable feeling and doesn’t have the kick I’m used to feeling in a mid shaft to get the ball turning over a bit more.
Played today, this seen action on a few holes. Remains the most reliable club in my bag.
I used mine today in the 3 H from 220 to
give myself an 8’ Eagle look ?.
I love this club.
