Carbon. Fiber. Face.
Yes, the worst kept secret in golf equipment the past month or so is real, and yes, it is coming.
A company never afraid of putting itself out there by doing something different, be it paint or tech, TaylorMade golf is introducing the new STEALTH lineup of drivers and their 60X Carbon Twist Face is no doubt going to be the talk of the town for some time. While carbon has been done before, TaylorMade is adamant it has never been done like this.
2022 TaylorMade STEALTH Drivers
Gone is the SIM and SIM2, and in comes a new naming convention, and one heck of a directional change materials wise as well. Although the overall shape of the three new drivers from TaylorMade look super similar to the aforementioned predecessors with the “Asymmetric Inertia Generator” which many compared to a fin on the sole of the clubhead, there is quite the new story going on as well.
First and foremost, all three drivers are much darker and sleek in terms of showing off the carbon crown and overall club frame, you see, by murdering everything but the face out, there is absolutely no avoiding the main thing when it comes to the STEALTH. Just prepare yourselves as well, because it might be the easiest to spot driver on television since the company went white paint back many years ago.
While there is a new and more flexible Thru-Slot Speed Pocket which has been proven in previous models in each of the three new drivers, as well as a sliding forward weight in one, the clear story here is the face.
According to the company this has been 20 years in development, and they are claiming they will never make another titanium driver face again, which is bold from the company that has almost constantly held the title of #1 Driver in Golf. The face is bright red with black accents that make it pop against the almost entirely black body of the head. From a design aspect, the 60X carbon face is 44% lighter than titanium of the same size and shape, this weight savings also lead TaylorMade to make the face 11% bigger than SIM2 and 20% from SIM. The 60X name comes from the SIXTY layers of carbon used to create the face.
While TaylorMade is touting optimal speed and distance, the bolder design claim is to creating faster ball speeds over a much larger face area than in the past. Not only that, but they have used a “nanotexture cover” which is a polyurethane cover with nanotexture to fine tune the launch and spin to help create more consistent total distance regardless of what the conditions might be on the course.
As mentioned, there are three driver models in the STEALTH lineup:
TaylorMade STEALTH
The “standard” model in the three driver lineup, this is the one that will appeal to the biggest segment of golfers with its mid-high launch and mid-low spin profile. The STEALTH is a 460cc design that, with the new 60X Carbon Twist Face, has more weight shifted low and back in the head than the company has been able to in the past, thus adding 15% to the overall MOI compared to the STEALTH PLUS+.
Base lofts for the STEALTH are 9.0° (RH/LH), 10.5° (RH/LH), and 12° (RH). Stock options are the Fujikura Ventus Red 5 and Aldila Ascent Red 60.
TaylorMade STEALTH PLUS+ Driver
This is the mid-launching and lowest spinning of the three driver heads and will have the most “Tour” preferred shapes and neutral to fade biased angle to it. The PLUS+ also uses a 10g sliding weight just behind the Speed Pocket pushing weight and draw/fade adjustability low and forward in the design.
The PLUS+ will be available in 8.0° (RH), 9.0° (RH/LH), and 10.5° (RH/H) lofts at 460cc. Stock options will be a Project X HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX and Mitsubishi Kai’li White 60.
TaylorMade STEALTH HD Driver
As the name might indicate, HD has to do with the “high draw” bias built into this one. The head remains 460cc like its counterparts and features all the same tech, but TaylorMade is adamant that by using the weight they have saved from the face and shifting the location of the Inertia Generator closer to the heel they have kept draw bias while making this the highest MOI of the three STEALTH drivers. The HD is considered high launch with mid overall spin.
The STEALTH HD has the same 9.0° (RH/LH), 10.5° (RH/LH), and 12.0° (RH) loft options as the standard STEALTH. It is offering the Fujikura Air Speeder and Aldila Ascent Ladies 45 as its standard options.
The Details
TaylorMade’s newest drivers will be hitting retail very soon and carry the price point of $599 if you want the moveable weight track or $579 without it.
There is certain to be no shortage of discussion when it comes to this one, so be sure to join in on the THP Community as thoughts and feedback are soon to come!

No no no stay strong!!! What setup did you order?
I did stock setup on MyStealth and its showing Feb8th still. The hybrid and 3w are already packaged waiting to go

My setup was with a Graphite Design AD HD shaft and an Align grip. That is one of the reasons I am going to call. If it is the grip, for example, no issue. I would change the grip.

yea ive learned from experience, especially the past year, to just order stock grip and change it later. Id have to think the AD HD is available. Its gotta be a grip issue
I was really interested in these new Taylormade drivers, but was anyone else irritated that they gave away so many of these new drivers to Instagram influencers and celebs? I saw they gave one to a guy who plays golf left handed and it was a right handed driver. I don’t know just kind of left a bad taste in my mouth when the average folks are forking over $600 for them and these rich celebs are getting them for free.

After waiting on hold for 30 minutes, I was able to talk to a customer service rep. It is the shaft that has become unavailable. He offered to change the shaft, but I have now shifted my fairway and hybrids to this shaft and was kind of excited to play all of the same shafts in those clubs this year. I realize that other shafts would deliver the same performance or close enough that a hacker like me would never know the difference, but I am OCD about golf clubs enough that it would now bother me to have the shaft in three other clubs and not my driver. So, a tough decision has to be made, LOL.

there are some decent prices on eBay for AD HD….. have you tried AD IZ? they’re very similar. On paper AD HD has a slightly stiffer midsection but when I tried both I had more success with AD IZ which is weird for me since its technically a softer playing shaft

Got to hit this today. I hate to admit it but I was impressed. Considering I am completely out of golf shape, and was in work shoes with no glove, this is pretty good for me. Also in a 9 degree head when I would definitely be in a 10.5

Why do you hate to admit it? It’s an impressive driver. I think it looks and sounds/feels better than the Rogue ST line. I haven’t hit the Cobra yet. I was seeing about 2 mph higher avg BS with Stealth plus- granted different shafts. Spin negligible between LS and plus, virtually same. Both performed well on off center strikes. I really liked the stealth+ high center, high center toe side- bombs for days on that miss. Sound and feel really reminded me of a hotmelted M2, which is one of the best drivers ever.

Mainly because earlier in the thread I said I was not a fan of it (before hitting it), and second I am not a big TM guy at heart. I’m committed to playing what’s best for me however, and will give this one a shot when I do my full fitting against all the other options.

Personally, I love reading views like this. It’s great when guys typically against a brand, confirm their enjoyment of a product.
How does that 9 point face compare to Cobra’s 15 point face that is available today? I hit my new LTDx MAX today and was very impressed. Just wondering.
Got a chance to hit the Stealth plus last night as part of a driver fitting, firstly there was a strong wind 30mph+ blowing down the range which was knocking any low spin drives straight out of the sky.
First impressions, I wasn’t keen on the shape of the head I am coming from a PING G400 LST which is a little longer back to front, the Stealth looked oddly round to me, as many have said the red face isn’t visible when you set up to the ball (at least with a 9* head, my fitter said it is more visible in the higher lofted versions). More surprisingly I really didn’t like the finish on the crown it is neither matt or shiny and seems to pick up finger and hand prints and always looks like it needs a wipe down to clean it.
I tested it in the standard Hzrdous smoke 60 stiff shaft in a 9* Stealth plus head, I was swinging ok so hit some base line drivers with the PING and then moved onto the Stealth, sound wise I couldn’t tell I wasn’t hitting a titanium faced club (It was windy though!), the feel was good, I struggled to really launch the ball (I have a decent upward angle of attack with the driver so that wasn’t an issue).
The wind was really messing with the numbers and I could actually see what I felt were decent strikes being knocked out of the sky by the wind:D. We tried lofting up (sound familiar?) to 10.5 to improve launch at that point the red face came more into view, I didn’t like that, less for the colour but more that I felt I was showing too much loft and that I could lose it right as a result. The extra loft helped the launch and I got to see some better flights as a result, the fitter commented that more loft and softer flex would generate the longest carry’s in the wind but obviously weren’t a true representation of what I would see under normal conditions.
With the conditions I knew I would have to come back for another test before any decisions are made, the only numbers I really was interested in was ball speed where I saw on average a 4mph increase from the Stealth over my gamer, launch and flight wise I am still to be convinced.
Full disclosure I tested this alongside the new Rogue Max LS which suited my eye more and had better flight characteristics for me straight out of the gate, its ball speed was only 2mph faster than the gamer.
In truth the wind spoiled the fitting and I will go back and hit the Stealth again before I decide but first impressions are I am not sure I can get past the head shape and the crown, the colour of the face was ok as long as I can’t see it at address.

For any of you that ordered the Stealth plus with the Kai’li shaft, they may be delayed. I was at my club today in the locker room and the assistant pro was delivering Stealth drivers to the lockers of the 3 other guys from my club that ordered them like I did on the release date. Two of the ones that showed up already were Stealth and the other was a Stealth+. I got my hopes up but found out the estimated date for the Kai’li shaft was May. It seems strange to me as it was one of the stock shaft offerings for the Stealth+. It obviously could change but right now Taylormade is indicating that the shaft is in short supply.
I’ll hit the retail stores on February 4th and see if I can find one in stock.

This reflects the experience that I discussed. It surely makes a lot of sense why Callaway did what it did with shafts. It could be a rough ride for those who do not get their equipment early.

TaylorMade is not keeping up on the site with backordered shafts. I found out that my order was delayed due to the shaft. When I spoke with customer service, I mentioned that the company should be noting on its site when shafts were no longer available. He told me that it was, but I went back and looked and the shaft that I ordered was still showing as available.
I am very sympathetic to these equipment companies. This is going to be difficult to navigate. I think it is going to be hit and miss.

Love the first part of that since I didn’t order a Kai’li. Sucks for everyone that did though.
My buddy hit this in his fitting yesterday. For him, it was one of the worst options by far. Now that certainly won’t be true for everyone. Granted we were indoors when he was hitting it, but I HATED the sound. It reminded me of hitting a plastic wiffle ball with a plastic bat. I didn’t care for the Ping either but this was by far the most gruesome sounding driver I heard him hit all day.

They called Taylormade to double check and the updated estimate for the Kai’li shaft is 2/28 for and expected delivery to me of March 7th. March is ok with me as the courses don’t open until about March 20th. I also ordered an LTDx that hopefully shows up before 2/9 when I leave for a golf trip to AZ.

The 9° stiff flex I ordered is still showing available on their website so obviously they don’t have up-to-date information there.
They probably should’ve waited on the launch or lowered expectations for pre-orders arriving by the official retail launch date in early February. I ordered on the morning of the release date With one of their stock shaft offerings and it looks like it will be delayed over a month.
The good news is if I fall in love with my Cobra unicorn driver I can cancel the order for my stealth plus.

i just hit about 10-15 shots with the stealth at pgatss. it was a little busy, so no one was there to swap shafts around for me. i hit the 10.5 with rdx red.
as many have already said, this thing just looks about perfect behind the ball. it’s so neutral. the shape is fantastic. the size is great. i still think the red face is stupid, but you get used to it quickly.
my first swing of the day was with this. and it registered 877rpm spin. that’s not a typo. i didn’t forget a 2, or a 1. it spun less than 1k and it was a very decent strike. the majority of the shots registered less than 2k spin, several under 1,700rpm. the miss was predominantly to the right. the shots i felt i toed a bit were actually the best of the set. this driver beat the rogue in carry and total, but the dispersion was very bad. maybe with a different shaft i could be more consistent.
the sound was higher pitched than i expected. i bet it would be great outdoors. i did have a hard time knowing where i hit it on the face except for a couple higher strikes. i think that speaks to the stability of the head, though. the spin was very consistent except for low strikes where it spiked up to 2,400 (haha “spiked”).
as low as the spin was, i’m not sure i could play this. but the looks and feel were so good i would definitely consider it in a fitting. it’s the kind of head that i would want to make work, because it is exactly what i’d want to look down at (sans red face!).

That’s crazy low spin. I hit the 9* stealth plus with the smoke RDX red shaft. I was getting 1600 rpms of spin on most shots. I hit a few that bumped all the way up to around 2100. .

I don’t think that I have seen a release where the reports on spin are so over the map. Many, like you and @McLovin are reporting outrageously low spin. Many are also saying that it might spin right about the same or a touch higher than SIM2. I am not sure what to make of it.

I guess its player dependent, but for me, the Stealth+ is nowhere near as low spin as SIM or even SIM2. I’ve yet to have a ball go sub 2100. Im +4 AoA and have had some high strikes and still see great spin numbers. Its why ive kept saying I think the face really retains spin and speed better than any driver ive hit
SIM was the foresight launch monitor king for me. Consistently 1600 – 1800 spin

I have never heard of a sub 1000 spin on a well struck shot. It makes one question the launch monitor. Even setting that aside, it is crazy low spin for the head profile. Wow, just wow.

I’ve hit about 40 shots with the Stealth+ at 9º and the Kai’li stiff shaft on two different GC2’s. My spin, other than 3 or 4 outliers, was all in that 2,300-2,700 window. The lowest was 1890. I’m definitely a high spin player but this is only a couple hundred RPM less than my Ping 425 LST and not any different than my old Epic SZ.

I’ve not hit the Stealth yet, but I get some stupid low driver spin numbers on well struck shots from time to time. I have a GC2/HMT combo at my house and have always seen that and it’s been consistent with what I see on the course. Interestingly, my irons and wedges come in between mid and high spin. Just something odd about the way I swing a driver I guess.
I just got back from a tournament at Pebble/Spyglass/Spanish Bay and the put trackman on us for a quasi long drive competition on the 1st hole at Spanish Bay. I ended up 6th out of about 100 golfers in distance at 302 yrds, but only 38th in ball speed at 155mph. Launch was 15 degrees with 1,600 spin. That was with a Mavrik head and Autoflex shaft. I’m probably going to be a terrible fit for the Stealth. We will see.
3 wood and hybrid will be in hand Monday…. The MyStealth did update to Feb 25th so hopefully thats accurate. I ordered the MyStealth about 2 weeks after release and figured it would take a little longer anyways
Not that I want it to be delayed but even if this doesnt ship until March I still wouldn’t be able to use it outside anyway
The TXG video today was the Stealth and not the Plus, but it seemed to have an ample amount of spin.

I skimmed through it. Was curious why they chose the regular when going up against the SLDR. But, whatever.
I can’t watch until later but TXG is comparing this vs SLDR
really can’t wait to see that comparison!!! I’ve hit some of the farthest drives of my life by far with the 430 SLDR. Also set an all time high of lost balls in a year

Don’t get to excited. They’re nothing alike. Lol The entire conversation that people keep trying to perpetuate that they’re in any way comparable is ridiculous.
And they use the non plus version, at 2.5 degrees less loft. So it’s not much of a comparison. And it still spins more than the sldr.
