Golf manufacturers are constantly navigating the ever-winding road of balancing riding a successful design with continually evolving and innovating. Perhaps no company knows that struggle better than Odyssey Golf.
In 2022 Odyssey was the number one putter on every single Tour. More interesting than that? They did it with 70% of the play being from non-sponsored golfers. In fact, that has been the story for about 12 years, when Odyssey re-established themselves as alpha in the putter world. We took a deep dive into the dominance of Odyssey Golf, here.
No putter company has done a better job of listening to consumer desires and thus being willing to bring back massively popular innovations like White Hot while still pushing forward. So, with that history it is no wonder that in 2023 we are seeing the return of Versa from Odyssey Golf. Oh, and that moment 12 years ago when they re-took the throne? That coincided with Versa.
The Versa Effect
If you look back on the Versa and its introduction in 2013, you will see an interesting tale. Among internet golfers and self-proclaimed purists, the designs were source of significant debate and discussion. The “striped” look was a love it or leave it kind of release for many, however, what if I told you that in 2022 there was a Versa in play on a Tour over 1,100 times?
You see, in putting, alignment is King, and even those who are the absolute 1% of golfers on the planet like having easy and accurate feedback on it. That is why Versa was created. The zebra look has a rhyme and a reason as internal testing from Odyssey has shown that the black and white contrasting lines are so effective at showing even the most minute face alignment woes that it is 67% more effective than a putter without it.
The tagline “The Path to Better Alignment is Black and White” centers around that data, and rightfully so. While so many focus on pace, if your alignment is off even fractions of degrees, the best pace in the world still won’t prevent you from missing your target significantly. So yes, Versa is back, but if you paid attention to the return of White Hot with the OG release, then you should already know it is returning with much needed improvements and streamlining.
2023 Odyssey Versa Putters
Odyssey is quick to admit that when Versa made its debut in 2013 there were some issues with it, not so much in performance, but rather the overall package. Part of that was too many models and too many line variations (parallel and perpendicular options) that were confusing to the golfer and cumbersome for retailers to get a clear message across. So, in 2023 there are five head shapes and eight models coming to retail.
Yes, the One and Double Wide are present, as is the Seven with DB and S versions. They are also joined by the new Three T which takes its shaping base from the Toulon Atlanta (with some massaging) as well as the Twelve, a shape that at its root is a “filled in” Seven and possesses the only parallel B/W/B alignment scheme of the release.
One aspect which will undoubtedly aid Versa in re-emerging on the scene with amateurs is the inclusion of the striking Red Stroke Lab shaft which absolutely stands out visually almost as much as it does in terms of performance. Another, however, is using the true White Hot insert, and not the more firm variation utilized back in 2013 which may have been more polarizing than the look ever was.
Finally, based on early images we have seen and Odyssey’s telling of the story themselves, the aesthetics are being done to the proper level this time around. Every shape has a premium finish with specific attention paid to the transition of the colors to keep crisp and clean visuals. Additionally, forward weights on the sole help optimize the stability and CG of the putters ensuring they live up to the Odyssey standard of performance.
The Details
Versa isn’t going to be for everyone, it wasn’t last time around and there is nothing which says it will be drastically different in 2023. However, for those who do struggle with face alignment and give the contrasting visual a chance, they will likely fall head over heels for what it does to their scores. If you love it, you will love it, that is part of the beauty of Versa. The putters will be available for purchase 2/10/23 with a price of $259.99.

Man I think I really like the look of that alignment. I thought the 12 would be my favorite, but I think I like the perpendicular better…
Here’s a good look at the 7 head for size comparison.
it’s roughly the same size as the Toulon Las Vegas, whereas the new TriHot 7 is noticeably larger.

Nice! I like that tri-hot 7.
The 3T is already on order, but I have 1100% decided that I am trading in a new 11 2ball for the 7s. Man I love it.

I am very intrigued but this straight offset shaft model. I did not see any like this at the ECPC but I would to give one a roll.

Thanks for the update. I still say a straight offset like that would be awesome.
LoL. Course head pro texted me about these putters. He is ordering and wanted to know if wanted to try a specific model. Before I could answer, he texted again that he realized I would want to try all of them (Versa and Tri-Hot models), so he ordered one of every model. I like when people get me. 😀
Getting some indoor rolls to rest my brain from work. Here are some comparison pics. Versa TWELEVE CS is now the gamer. Got some significant time on the putting green tonight and this Versa TWELVE is just clicking with me. I think the biggest thing I am seeing is increased confidence with short putts. The cool thing is I do not feel that I have lost any distance control going into the center shaft, which I always felt was a strength of mine with the two ball TEN.
7s ordered.
move got a couple Garsen grips here I can throw on it, but ordered it with the tour snsr contour 104 to try out.

These looked good in hand in the store. For some reason though the double bend DW just wanted to lay open when I addressed it. It was a bit of a bummer for me.

I rolled the 12 double bend. Not my thing. Saw the others and just couldn’t find much that interested me. I’d still like to try the 12 CS.
Went and rolled a few more models today.
I like the seven. But the 12 seems to still be the one that catches my eye.

ehhhh, yes and no.
My guess is that it’s to give options. Similar to how some people like matte crowns, some like gloss.
That said, different materials will also naturally look a little different as well, or be finished differently to differentiate parts.
But, it can give benefit to alignment, but not to the extent or purpose of Versa.

4th round with the 3T Versa slant neck…. and wow. I need to figure out my arccos data, but I holed numerous putts with this today, and those I didn’t make I left very easy tap ins (other than 2 holes).
The shape plus the versa, plus stroke lab… it just works really dang well for me. I know the look is not very everyone, but if you can, roll some in person and see what you think. Can’t wait to get back out and roll the rock with this bad boy again!
My 7s arrived this evening.
I hate that I love it so much. I desperately want to play blades but this is just so good.
34”, 1* flat, Tour snsr contour 104. Can’t wait to test it next week.

Golf market around here isn’t great but I seriously hope one of the local stores has a 3T to demo… sounds like a winner!
another round with the 3T Versa and as much as I love my Toulon Palm Beach…. this is working better. I am a decent putter overall, but this putter has enhanced my performance. Had 31 putts on Sunday, and that includes 2 from just off the green.
It lines up so dang well and the roll is sweet.

You’re not alone!!!!
The versa 7S today was an absolute monster. Took about 3 holes to get used to, but once I ride, everything was within inches of the hole if it wasn’t dropping in. Made a couple long putts.
it was wow enough to earn its place in the bag for a while

Glad to hear you’re rolling it well! I too am loving the Versa 12 CS. I am still wondering how I never found CS putters. It has really been great so far. Not sure I can get off CS now.
I have in play the Versa Twelve Center Shaft putter. I know some people may have not the center shaft and perhaps wouldn’t like it. However, I never thought I would go center shaft, but it has been awesome. Even without center shaft, the Twelve is an awesome putter. It has been very good to me so far and is firmly in the bag.
My friends keep asking when I will go back to my Garage Toulon Palm Beach (it is a freaking looker) but the performance (and frankly good looks) of the Versa 3T have me not even considering it.
Saturday I had 30 putts (which is very good for me) with 1 3 putt mixed in there. And total feet of putts was actually pretty low because I had a lot of putts of less than a foot after narrowly missing. With the slant neck, it sets up so well behind the ball, and while it is a mallet, it is pretty dang compact (fits tightly in blade headcovers) yet offers a ton of forgiveness.
So so solid, if you get a chance, I would roll these at your local establishments and see if they catch your fancy the way they have caught mine.
Just had a putter fitting and walked away with the double wide. After testing my gamer and then my top ponder, M Craft IV, my fitter came back with this. Numbers were prefect right away!
I wasn’t a huge fan of the looks of the previous Versa line so I never gave the new line a look or thought. I honestly was disappointed when I saw him walking back with a Versa. The looks have quickly grown on me and I can’t argue with the performance. After talking more with the fitter on why he went straight to this putter, I’m sold. I’ve quickly become a believer in all the tech in this line, and alignment is only part of that.
The 3T is still amazing while practicing on my office. I love the DB 11 TT but the 3T just rolls smoooooth and on line.
Granted, the 3T was fit at ECPC with my loft and lie, but it’s just mmmm mmmm

I need to get a picture to post, but really liked the Twelve head alignment.
The whole key to the Versa this year is the help in alignment. I thought playing the Twelve yesterday gave me a nice feel for exactly knowing where my head was during my stroke and seeing that I hit the ball on the exact line planned.

As a right handed putter that’s left eye dominant, the 3T or 7 Versa alignment did the same thing. I loved the shape of the 12, but the alignment direction was less awesome for me.

This lineup appeals to me. I’m all in one the visual alignment designs. They suit my eyes. Rolling them indoors, I am not sure on the WH insert. I know it is well loved. I need to roll outside on real grass. As to specific models, I want to like the 12. And yet the one that feels the best is the 1CH. The balance works for my stroke, and the simple shape helps with lining up putts. One of these days I will grab a couple of models and roll them on a practice green.
