Divide.
The Dictionary defines it three ways:
- To separate into two or more parts, areas, or groups
- To separate into portions and give out shares
- To cause to be separate, distinct, or apart from one another
Honestly, it is a word that is intertwined with the serious, and oft over-serious nature of the world we live in today. Thankfully though, Srixon Golf is taking the word and applying it to a much more entertaining thing…golf balls.
In a move that will undoubtedly provide a lot of discussion among golfers, Srixon is bringing back the two-tone golf ball. Say hello to the Q-STAR TOUR DIVIDE.
Enter the Srixon Divide
Yes, let’s get right to it. Look at that cover.
While those who have been around the game for a few decades may be immediately taken back to the design of a company from yesteryear, many are surely left going, ‘woah’.
Not only is the Srixon Q-STAR TOUR DIVIDE a two-tone golf ball, but it is also a two-tone matte finished golf ball with one half red and the other yellow. More than that, the company is quick to point out that this is not a painted-on finish, both colors are infused into the new thermoplastic urethane cover of the DIVIDE ensuring both durability and consistency.
Why two-tone? Well, to make spin visible for golfers, particularly in the short game. The nature of the dual colors means golfers will be able to witness the spin of their pitch and chip shots and get visual feedback from that in practice and on the course. Additionally, when it comes to putting, the dual colors offer an alignment aid one direction, and a check on the forward roll (or lack thereof) when set up in the other direction. What some may not realize is those classic golf balls that used this look are still in the practice bags of many golfers, and now they can get that same practice effect with a modern golf ball that can be taken to the course.
Internally, the DIVIDE is the same performance driven golf ball of the standard Q-STAR TOUR. It offers the same FastLayer Core and 338 dimple pattern that creates the wide range of playability that the non-DIVIDE version does. It remains a 3-piece urethane golf ball which has a 72-compression rating and is aimed at 75 MPH and up players offering a Mid-High launch and High greenside spin.
The DIVIDE will hit stores on 4/15/21 and carry a $32.99 price point.
What do you think about the Q-STAR TOUR DIVIDE from Srixon? Is it something you plan on giving a try? Is it too far out of your wheelhouse? Jump into the discussion below and on the THP Community and let us know!
I will say as a line drawer on my balls for putting the seam was great for putting and lining up the driver. But like matte red balls ive tried in the past, my eyes just don’t pick that shade up well.
Also coming from a ProV1x this felt like a marshmallow.glad I’m only out on an $8.75 sleeve.
I’m curious about the differences of people who can’t see red balls. For me personally red is the easiest color for me to find and I’ve tried about ever color of golf ball that exists. I wonder what causes this.
Thats super interesting as one of the things @Canadan @JDax and myself commented on yesterday was how easy it was to track in the air and find. Obviously everybody’s eyes are different. Out of curiosity, what color is the rough you are playing out of? Meaning was it green or dormant of some sort?
I’m not sure on the red. I normally play a yellow ball and see them easily from start to finish. But like 3/4 through the shot with the red my eyes seem to lose track of it. My buddy said the same thing today. I was like where did that end up and he couldn’t track it all the way either.
@JB our rough is about as thick and plush green as we’ll get in a season.
Here’s a pic. The yellow pops to me if that side is up. The red I would drive right on by today. I remember a few years back my buddy and I were trying the red Maxfli matte ball
When it came out and he scrapped it after a few holes just couldn’t see it in the rough View attachment 9003771
That is interesting. To me they both pop, but everybody’s eyes are different
That is what I thought after playing it today. Quality of the QStar Tour is still there.
I still have a headache from watching that thing. Surprised I didn’t have a seizure.
Supposedly Divide will also be available in yellow/blue and yellow/orange colors at some point…would those colors work? Or did the feel of the Divide vs. your normal ProV1x turn you off from even trying other future color combos?
This is the first Srixon ball I’ve ever tried. While I really like the red/yellow combo I’ve also mentioned that I really lucked out that the QST seems to fit me well.
I’ve never cared for the matte blue balls. Those are tough for me to see as well.
Orange id have to see in hand.
As long as you don’t hit them into the range ?
?? That’s my patented power pull.
On the putting green it’s just flat out fun. I’m not at all the guy who uses a line to putt, so I personally found it distracting to my putting routine to line the ball up to the hole and then try to putt like that. I did a ton better by only showing a single color and getting the feedback with how end over end I could roll it from there, which I would argue was just as visual.
Second, it’s really entertaining to watch out there. Not as much off the driver and long irons, but around the green and even when it lands on the green, you get instant feedback on how your ball is reacting on contact. We had a couple shots that were flop style and out of bunkers where it would hit with some side spin and you could SEE the zip occurring as it landed and started to roll out.
One of the funniest things to me was watching it land from full shots on the green… My brain is so conditioned that every time I saw the color change I thought "oh damn that’s a hell of a mud ball" hahaha – When really it was just the two sides being visually different.
I played it for at least 9 holes and got pretty used to it. At no point when trying to hit did I find it distracting at all.
if I can find a way to go pick up a dozen before my round I think the pronounced halves of the ball will help even more than they would with putting alignment.
I’ve used the writing on a ball to encourage that kind of thing in the past, so I absolutely see where you’re coming from.
Hopefully you’re able to get some to share. Sounds pretty damn smart to me.
Yeah. I realized in my previous routine I was aligning to where I soled the club and not the ball. This put the ball probably 2 inches too far forward so I think using the alignment on the tee will give me a reference to make sure I line up square to the ball. I can certainly do it with a small alignment line on any ball but these Divide balls just scream alignment and should really help my position and making sure my aim is right At the same time.
I was thinking the same thing, one color toward the target and visually extending the line to my left heal. I tend to let the ball creep forward in my stance with driver.
As someone who also tends to play the ball too far forward, I’ll be interested in how this turns out for you.
I did find from a putting alignment standpoint that it absolutely helps me line up putts better. My putting wasn’t great today. Green were lumpy and slow and I put myself in some not great positions on the green. I ended up doing as well as could be expected with those conditions.
I like the alignment for putting but I choose a color for off the tee. I only lost one off a tree into god knows where. But they seem to hold up well not much scuffing on the 2 balls I used. I think they do stay dirty due to the matte coating but that’s just my opinion.
Solid ball that I liked far more than I expected too.
I’ll post more thoughts after I play with them some more.
The whole episode is about aim and alignment so it is interesting to see how he’s using this ball in relation to those tips.
Would be fun to see those on tour and hear reactions from commentators.
It would also be fun to see Srixon pros in Divide hats half yellow half red, or another color…the hats would probably look ridiculous though
Reminds me of the awesome color block silk button ups I was rocking in the early 90’s.

Yeah, I suspect the the white/orange and white/yellow as designated on the conforming list is probably a Japan only release, at least initially.

The half white might work for those who have an aversion to playing colored balls.
Although if I could get a full orange Z-Star I might be into giving those balls a try.
They’d look like they worked at Hot Dog On A Stick! ?

Teeing off I just pick a color (I think Yellow goes farther)[emoji23].
I had a few 1 hop and stop on the greens and I love watching the ball spin when chipping. I find that when I am hitting running chip shots that don’t get too high it almost seems like the ball is flashing.
These balls seem pretty durable but they die get dirty quickly.
My only complaint as well. It is a fun ball.
If the ball fits you well I think you’re gonna fall in love.
