Last month Cobra Golf dropped their latest hybrid and it was sort of a surprise release timing wise. The Cobra KING Tec Hybrid immediately looked high tech (no pun intended), but how would it perform?
Today we are in the THP Tech Studio for another episode of TESTED! Where you see the swings and get a full breakdown of the data on the new Cobra KING Tec Hybrid. The video below starts off with some technology talk, and we walk you through overhead what is going on with this new hybrid. Then we hop into the hitting bay for some swings and finally, we breakdown the information that the Foresight GCQuad presented and give you some final thoughts.
This episode is full of information and data. Can this hybrid unseat some of their previous offerings with rails? How does the face angle sit and is it prone to hooking? We cover all of it in this review of the Cobra KING Tec hybrid that is just now hitting stores.
After watching the THP TV video above, what are your initial thoughts on this piece of equipment?
For more information on this specific club or anything else from the complete lineup from Cobra Golf, check out their website at www.cobragolf.com.
I played again today and put the club back to 17 degrees and in the draw setting. I only hit it once today, but straight into the wind and it was on a line. The biggest thing is that there was desert left and with past hybrids, that would have worried me. I think it is going to gap in perfect and I will mess with the settings until it is my 210-220 club.
I possibly will be playing 3 times next week and wish I already had the 4H in the bag; it is on my Christmas list ?

I was really contemplating this or the tour 5W. If you hit a consistent 5W, the 17 King Tec is probably redundant.
I just have some monster 5W shots that are great off the tee but not on long par 3’s or long approach shot because I just don’t know when that 240 yd shot is coming versus the 210 yard. My swing just isn’t that consistent. I think I could set this up to go far, but I am not looking for that.
If I can make this a more consistent 210-220 club, I will be ecstatic. My Big Tour 3W is my 225-245 club and rarely try to hit a green over 220 yards. My 4i on a good strike is 195-210, but I am just inconsistent with it and why I may eventually get another one of these.
I love the matte finish and the two-tone top. The sound is not perfect, but better than my Speedzone 3W.
i went to the exec course and didn’t take my driver or 3w so I could hit this. Keep in mind, my 8i is usually 150 yards and I hit some 125-130 into wind today.
as far as left to right, I was 33% left/right/middle and the ones that missed were close to FW

I have both. I can drill the 5 wood off the tee around 245-250. Off the ground I’m roughly 235. Thats only about 5 yards longer than the 3H King Tec. I’m considering a 2H to replace the 5W.
Anyone hit this and a UW? I would be curious about the comparison.

I have and seen no reason to move away from the King Tec. I did like the UW though.

I hit them both with tape on them. I loved the sound and feel of Apex UW but the look and adjustability of the King Tec. They were nearly the same size, maybe Apex UW was a tad taller?
Reasons I picked this over Apex UW: The two tone matte finish on King Tec is great and I was able to get my same iron shaft for no charge with Cobra connect grip. But #1 was adjustability. With my propensity to hook hybrids, I felt better about being able to make this work.
I played the first round with my new King TEC 19 & 21 degree hybrids on Thursday. First shot with the 21 (set to 22) was a nice, straight approach shot. On the third hole, I was about 195 from the pin, so I gave the 19 a try. My initial reaction was something along the lines of OMFG!!! High, slightly drawing shot that ended up pin high just off to the right…after hitting nothing but nasty hooks with my last hybrids, this was a very welcome change!

I may be one one of the few who Cobra Connect being a part of things isn’t a big “pro” for haha
I don’t think it’s a huge pro either. It’s nice to have if you want it but the lack of grip choices is bothersome.

I honestly don’t like the length it adds. I know, choke down, but it bothers me.
Not an Arccos fan either. When I order my own Cobra clubs I don’t order it.

It is hard to find any grips right now. Though I did get a cobra connect mcc+4 on my king tec 2h that I like. At some point, I imagine I will regrip everything without arccos, but not yet. I like arccos for new clubs
I’m going to re-grip in the spring. Not sure I’ll go with Arccos because of the missed shots here in the mountains. The 19 king Tec in encroaching on the Tour 5W

The data is good in an open place. I don’t like having to check my cell phone after each hole to see if it worked. It takes the joy out of having the Caddie Link.
Work and bad weather are no fun, I miss hitting this club

Sim session on Friday morning showed that I can hit this just as far as my 5 wood and also take some distance off. The 5 is likely to be shelved for a the Forged Tec 2 iron as a driver replacement. Consistency with the King Tec is strangely good and doesn’t require much effort or thought. I wonder if I should swap for a 2H? Radspeed 24 degree is leaving the bag for the King Tour 4 iron. I’m also getting the 3 irons that I will never game (these irons will never be moved, only retired and one of them needs to have the copper finish) so I’m at 13 clubs. Radspeed 4H will hang on for now.

Easier to launch from the deck as well. I am very close to getting the 2H to replace the 5w. I don’t hit 3 woods from the deck well enough to game one so this at 15.5 degrees could be the perfect solution.

If you have not hit this club, in any loft, YOU NEED TO GO TRY IT. So easy, so fast, so forgiving.
I love this hybrid.

Yup, I’m with you. Best hybrid I’ve every hit, hands down. I’ve got a higher lofted one so it’s not really a cannon type club for me, but it is still probably slightly too much club for the gap I have it in

It’s starting to become automatic off the tee. It’s a good feeling.
@Roadrunner let me try his King Tec today while we played. I really like the look and the feel of this hybrid. I only got to try it once but it’s nice high second shot on a par 5. I might have to go do a little more research on these. The adjustability just makes this such a great club.
Well this has been added to the bag today! I wanted a 3HB and tested a few out. This set up was the clear winner for me in dispersion and distance. I really did like the look and feel better also. First round with it will be Sun. Grip has been changed out and ready to go! Thanks to @Roadrunner for letting me try his last weekend during the scramble. His weights were set the opposite of mine but the club felt good. It is easier for me to get a shorter club going in to out. This will be replacing my 3 wood i had.

2 H is at 17* any reason why you are dropping 1.5*? My 2 is lofted up 1.5* because they didn’t have 3h when I was shopping and this gaps with my 3w at -1.5* just where I want.

I will mostly use this off the tee for now. I wanted to maximize the distance i can get with it. I will have to see how it works for me off of the FW hits. I pulled my 3w out and still have my 5 wood for now. I have a feeling this is going to be a great club.

the downsides of working from home…. ?
Jokes aside, do folks think the 2H can start rivaling 3w/4w distance off the deck? I don’t think it will keep up off the tee, but when factoring strike from the deck it’s something I have pondered.
Had a great lesson tonight. I think the King Tec is going to fit right in well. I let my instructor hit its he loved it And he crushed it a smooth 260. My first hit was 227 on the track man. I was having no issues getting the path in to out with the hybrid at all. I am swinging about 85 so I keep better form. That hopefully will increase as I settle in with the new swing path etc. Looking forward to my first round with it.

This is the kinda friend everyone needs.
First round complete with the new King Tec hybrid. I used it 3 times on par 5 second shots. This hybrid is awesome. Very solid off th deck and super easy to launch the ball. First shot I put myself about 10 yards off the green. Second shot I pushed a hair right about 20 yards off the green. The third shot I tried was 210 into the wind over a lake to be on in two. I cleared the lake but short of the green had to chip up for the 2 putt par. In all reality I should of pulled the 5 wood with the wind but you have to try the new club out right! Looking forward to more time with this club.
Showed up on the range today with a bit of a case of lefts, likely not getting loose, time behind a desk, yada yada….
Moved the weight to the toe it made an impact. Love having the adjustability so this club can grow with me as my swing changes…

I’ve always struggled with fairways unless its a tee shot. The 5 tour is a 240 from the tee and the 19 is 235. Off the deck I’ve always been better with hybrids. (Until the MC I carried a CLK2020 2H lofted at 14 degrees. Worm Burner at 250)
