Big difference between this and being a stripper. Huge.

1. I haven't bought a golf digest in a long time. This cover isn't going to get me to buy it.

2. A) I would be uncomfortable with my daughter saying that Lexi was a role model for her after this cover. But...

B) Why are we looking to professional athletes as role models and then act surprised when their behavior disappoints us anyway? Sure, golf is supposed to be different, but we're still talking about professional athletes here. Admire them for their skills, and any other charitable work or whatever, but look other places for your role models.

Would you want a stripper to be a role model for your child?
Maybe. As long as I understand why my daughter is looking up to a stripper.

Why are strippers bad role models?

Again with the caveat that girls aren't the target audience, the message here to them is pretty clear - "it doesn't matter if you are one of the best female golfers in the world, you won't get on the cover of a magazine or be recognized for any accomplishments as an athlete unless you show off your rack." If she wore a sports bra that showed nearly as much the message subtly changes to "take care of your body and work hard..." Believe me when I say I would have put big money 10 years ago on me never uttering these types of sentiments ever, but my views have evolved to reflect how I see young girls responding to this type of imagery.

Was Suzann Petterson any less empowered after the SI body photoshoot?

Agree. Was a simple question based on a comment of how taking clothes off impacts being a role model.

I didn't say or imply they were, was simply a question.

Now I will say that society in general would strongly lean towards them not being an ideal role model but that's another discussion.

I think that sort of shows it doesn't and there's some context you have to look at.

If LT was riding a cannonball in her undies, singing about doing MDMA, and dry humping Robin Thicke I'd be on board with the poor role model thing. This photo though, not so much.

What about this magazine cover would make her a poor role model?

I get the protective daddy thing, but I'm not seeing it. Treating your caddie like sh!t, using PED's to cheat, throwing fits, etc, are all things that I'd consider issues indicating a poor role model. Here you have a massively successful young woman that by all acounts is a pretty good person almost showing something the majority of the world's population sees every day. Her accomplishments and demeanor far outweigh a magazine cover that isn't even all that overtly sexual.

We certainly didn't get many complaints about a bikini wearing Blair O'Neal when those ads popped. And I'd argue they were more sexual in nature than this. Hell, I'm pretty sure I saw that as an avatar here on more than a few occasions.

Hey -- you keep Blair O'Neal out of this...

Society is proven wrong often.

What if the cover was Lexi standing over a dead deer while holding a smoking rifle?

This isn't pointed at you Cookie, but sometimes the moral compass of society is very messed up.

I am more offended that the cover insinuates I can drive the ball 436 yards.

Understood, I was asking at face value based on comment and not referring to this photo.

I think this was a terribly failed attempt to appear sexy. Looks like CPG may encourage this activity based on their ladies on tour. Perhaps it's happening to sell something....no idea.

Dead deer would bother me much more than this in all honesty. I have no dog in the fight so it doesn't bother me but it's sad that this is what GD has come to.

Agree on moral compass....assumptions/perceptions are a b*tch!

If I have copies coming in my subscription still, I'll keep this off the coffee table. I wouldn't want my precious little girls (8, 4) asking Daddy why this girl has her shirt off... Just not what I want them to see and think it's ok. We can choose what to read and how to raise our kids... This will be one way I'll try to continue to help her learn that the outside of a person isn't the most important part of them.

At least Blair found something she is successful at.

Saw yesterday that she's a "Bieleber"! I don't know if it was April Fools, but if it wasn't, she is!!!! Ha!

Lexi in the above pose would have been more fitting for the issue, and more attractive, but they us just me.

I don't really care .
Our children are used to see sexy pictures , videos and suggestive gestures on tv with almost every young female singers on prime time.

Thought everybody could do that...#internetgolfing

I Want to read GD for golf not soft core porn. GD is trying to be something other than a Golf magazine. When mine comes in the mail it will right in the garbage can. I hope the advertisers realize some people do not want this but things related to GOLF.

who saw deer hunting and stripper references coming? :alien:

I read an online statistic that 12% of men admitted to viewing pornography online. It was then inferred that 88% of men were liars.
